Back in the day, Nickelodeon had a plethora of great shows. But, what were your favorite shows to watch from them?

My all-time favorite Nickelodeon show is Legends of the Hidden Temple.

'You Can't Do That on Television' was my favourite show as a kid. Kind of an SNL/Monty Python-style sketch-comedy deal for kids. Watched it loads.

... Funny thing about Nick. Nowadays, it's their Animated shows that are much better than their live(action?) ones. Back in the '90s, it's their Game Shows and Live Stuff that were MUCH better than their Cartoons. Huh.

I loved GUTS and Hidden Temple back in the day... *nostalgic sigh*

I have a real soft spot for Hey Arnold! I also loved the Nickelodeon game shows as a kid, like Legends of the Hidden Temple and Global GUTS.

I have good memories of coming home as a kid to watch some Spongebob.

Yeah I noticed that too. Anything with live action for kids nowadays is god awful.

All That was soooooo good.

^So was All That actually good, or so we just remember it being good due to nostalgia?

I think either way I respect what that show did, by making an SNL-type sketch comedy show for kids and doing it well. But does it hold up? I haven't watched in a very long time.

i was out of high school before i'd heard of 'spongebob'-----------meanwhile this may represent the first time some of you have heard of 'you can't do that on television', inasmuch as the series ended years and years before you were born

i've seen it not that long ago and i'd say it mostly holds up

it's a little asinine at times but then so is snl

I've never seen You Can't Do That On Television, but I'm aware that it's the show that started off Nickelodeon's proclivity to slime usage. Those Canadians and their slime, I tell ya.

Wonder how much her repeatedly getting doused in green glop as a kid might eventually have informed some song I got really sick of hearing back in high school.)

^The slime, not so much (other than a 3 second clip in one of her music videos). Dave Coulier being behind the scenes on the show, that informed pretty much the entirety of Jagged Little Pill.

Ren and Stimpy was my favorite.

Seasons 2-5 hold up as well as any skitcom can. Lori Beth Denberg is a genius wit, Josh Server & Mark Saul are nutjobs, Kenan & Kel are magic, Amanda Bynes is lightning, the girl trio (Johnson/Reyes/Bates) are all vastly underrated, Nick Cannon is a master clown. Some sketches are super creative and/or clever, others are super derivative and/or just don't work. Some start off great, then fall into over-formulaic-ness.

Season 6 is where the cracks start to show. Josh is visibly exhausted, Kenan & Kel just left, Amanda is only in half the episodes (she was taping The Amanda Show at the same time), the pacing is way out of whack (full-length "Ask Ashley" scripts are rushed to fit half the time, for example), et cet. Gabriel Iglesias contributes a couple interesting new things, though.

Seasons 7-10 aren't great. Jamie Spears has 1 good character & otherwise sucks the energy out of whatever sketch she's in. Foiles, Desena, Sullivan, & Brummet gel okay, but they're still learning the ropes until season 8. Shane Lyons is abominably bad. "Know Your Stars" is a bright spot. The weekly guest stars are distracting until that gimmick gets dropped. The writing is sloppy. The filler skits ("Comin' At Ya", "Connect the Zits") are huge wastes of time. Christina Kirkman is a good addition. The season 10 newbies are bad additions. Trying to revive "Good Burger" with Ryan Coleman was stupid. The reunion special was enjoyable. Overall, despite some very strong highlights, these years lack the charm & personal touch of the earlier seasons.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^OK, that all makes sense. When I remember All That, it's that 2-5 run that sticks with me. I think even as a kid I was pretty uninterested in the newcomers and the latter seasons.

That show really encapsulates the Late 90's for me, let me tell ya.

Don't think I ever watched All That.

I loved Rugrats and Hey Arnold! as a kid, and they still hold up today. Other shows I enjoyed were Spongebob Squarepants (the first couple seasons at least), Invader Zim, and El Tigre.

the original all that seasons had some amazing musicians perform too

they had **** nas perform "street dreams" on that show. they brought in outkast to do "rosa parks"
