The first stand-alone Star Wars movie, coming out December 16 this year. Looks like it might be cool.

I assume that's supposed to be a siren going off, but it sounds like a distressed sheep. Other than the angry sheep, it looks promising.

holy crap that trailer is amazing.

Standalone, as in requiring zero familiarity with Star Wars? That is kind of cool and a smart business decision.

Yoooo this looks rad??? I'm so down for a movie in the Star Wars Wars universe that isn't a multi-movie commitment. One that has full story satisfaction start to finish and is divorced from the main storyline as we know it. This is REALLY COOL

You know what? I'm really excited for this. Star Wars has such huge and diverse universe, yet nine times out of ten the stories are just Jedi, Jedi, Jedi. It'll be cool to finally see a film about a regular person without any Mary Sue Jedi stuff, just a blaster and gumption.

Sooooo, who else is going to go see this?

This is the prequel we needed.

I have enough nerd friends that I'll probably be dragged into theaters for it. In the meantime, let me know how it is.

Was gonna see it opening night but I ended up being scheduled for work tonight and I'm on a train to Michigan all day tomorrow

Other than a bizarre review from the New Yorker which accidentally implied that Episode II was any good, critics are loving it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The first half is kind of all over the place and lacks direction. They tried to overcomplicate what is a relatively simple story. There's some stuff to like but it's kinda frustrating.

The second half **** rules and features one of the best action sequences I've ever seen.

Saw it today. I think I liked it better than The Force Awakens.

[spoiler]The film is kind of quick to start and quick to end. Like, it just throws you right in, and then two hours later throws you right out.

There was a whole lot of fanservice, particularly with all the cameo appearances from established characters. Even Darth Vader wasn't really necessary for this movie at all, but I'm not complaining.

The digital likenesses of Tarkin and Leia were amazing. At first I thought Tarkin was just a really good Peter Cushing lookalike, or an actor with great makeup, before the uncanny valley-movements gave it away. Still impressive, though.[/spoiler]

Also saw it today. Had some great action sequences, but I felt like the plot could probably be reduced to a paragraph without losing terribly much. I don't regret seeing it, but I suspect this is going to be the one I'll forget exists whenever I mention Star Wars.

I guess the reason almost everyone is white in Episodes IV-VI is that all the minorities in the Rebellion died in Rogue One. [/sarcasm]

I thought the movie mostly did a great job of explaining why all the new characters and technology shown off were never mentioned in the rest of the war, but why did the Rebels only ever build one Hammerhead ship? It killed two goddamn Star Destroyers in one go, and not being able to kill one Star Destroyer is the catalyst of most of E4.

Okay first off I thought dudes name was Sol or Saul the whole movie. I look it up and his name is SAW. Unreal. Unreal. Absolutely unreal. He had an arc on clone wars and everything.

I swear they were not saying Saw that whole time.

Other then that I liked it a lot. The team was cool and I wish we could have met more of them. I understand why they didn't want us getting too attached and the movie moves brisk pace too so not a lot of breathing room but a few scenes of Jin and SAW in the past would have been cool ya know establish what theyre relationship even was or why she was in prison and stuff.

Thats another thing too Jin was cool and tough but like was she jaded, was she a believer, was she a spiteful rebel, defiantly broken, unyielding? We get a pretty good idea of how she feels after hearing that message from her pops but it's like how was that supposed to be some sort of revelation/turning point for her if we don't even know how she feels about her dad/the rebels/the empire before then.

idk. I might be nit picking movie was lit AF don't get me wrong.

That shot at the end tho. Poetic justice. Someone went to film school aint even kidding that shot was tasty and delicious. You know the one. I'm talking about. THE ONE. THE REALLY GOOD ONE.

I have absolutely no qualms about this movie. I loved every second of it. It's probably one of my favorite Star Wars films. I left feeling completely satisfied.

Definitely want to see it. Force Awakens was great and this mostly looks better.

[spoiler]She felt betrayed by her father & abandoned by....his name was seriously Saw? Every single actor of every accent was making L sounds--anyway, she just wanted nothing to do with the war after that point until she realized that her father did what he did to protect her & give the Rebels a chance at winning.[/spoiler]

I felt like it was mostly fine - the first hour or so felt like a bit of a slog because the pacing was slow, but when it picks up towards the end I was thoroughly entertained. My one gripe with it (and why I ultimately like TFA a little better) is that I didn't particularly feel very connected to most of the characters. So when ish starts hitting the fan, I felt weirdly disconnected from it even though the action itself was really well-done.

Yeah, I wish Jyn had some more scenes introducing you to her like was done for Luke in ANH and Rey in TFA. Specifically, really could have done with scenes between her and Saw.
