I am almost at the end of the Frieza arc, and this is a Goku's Parenting Call-Out Post.

Goku does not deserve Gohan. Goku is a great friend and a great person, and he loves Gohan very much, but he isn't a great dad.

Goku always has to be the ~big damn hero~ that is like "you guys leave I'll take care of the rest" and YELLS at Gohan to leave and gets MAD AT HIM for wanting to stay and help, he loses his temper with his traumatized 9yo son for hesitating on the battlefield before leaving as told,, which is RIDICULOUS considering the LAST battle he would have died if Gohan hadn't disobeyed him and come back for him!! He doesn't treat him as a fighting equal and he pulls the "I'm your father, I'm right, listen to me!" card to make Gohan obey.

And then as Gohan is flying away, scared and confused and holding his DYING MENTOR WHO WAS KILLED IN FRONT OF HIM *AGAIN*, Gohan the precious pure **** soul that he is swallows his feelings of being upset and confused about his dad and tells himself "my dad is so awesome, he's the best, he's right I need to just listen to him." Goku expects his son to just follow his orders and even lashes out at him, and then Gohan brushes aside his feelings of being upset about it!!!! Because he thinks he was in the wrong!!!!!!!!

Goku is never there when Gohan is fighting because he's always 15 episodes late and tbh if he wants to make a show about protecting his son he should maybe save his life every now and then like ALL OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS HAVE, INCLUDING VEGETA, and try fighting alongside him rather than just yelling at him to leave all the time and not respecting him as a comrade!!!!!! I AM SO UPSET YOU CAN'T JUST GIVE HIM HEALING BEANS ONCE AND THEN THINK IT MAKES UP FOR AN ENTIRE SERIES OF NOT BEING THERE

GOKU DOES NOT DESERVE THE UNDYING LOVE AND RESPECT THAT GOHAN HAS FOR HIM AND I HOPE HE OWNS UP TO IT THE WAY PICCOLO DID BC GOHAN DESERVES BETTER.

Also, like, I legitimately don't know whether Goku's questionable parenting is supposed to come off that way or not. Like I feel like it's made pretty clear that Gohan is upset and confused by Goku's behavior and it was pointed out that Goku is struggling to not lose who he is as he goes Super Saiyan, so maybe the show also thinks he is being a **** dad right now?? I mean Vegeta (pre-death *Vegeta* of all people) also made a point ~20 episodes ago about how Gohan doesn't even know where his dad is because he's never there.... which means it might be actually addressed later, which I REALLY want to happen.

It would be really nice if DBZ showed that even ~super great dudes~ can be flawed and hurt the people they care about. Apologize to Gohan please. #GohanDeservesBetter

It just gets worse from there, really. There's an infamous scene in the Cell Saga that highlights his lack of empathy for Gohan (and highlights Piccolo's feelings for Gohan) and does something in the Buu Saga which even Vegeta scolds him for. It continues into Dragon Ball Super where he expresses his disappointment in his life choices.

He is a pretty bad husband, too, while we're at it. Not much of a family man at all but an excellent friend.

What's funny is Gohan has a cute little family and it's actually nice to see his life in DBS. He is not stronger than Goku but he is a better person, even to his enemies.

Cell!Goku makes Gendo Ikari look like Mufasa.

I think it's widely accepted that Vegeta is a better dad and husband.

He is but anyone who doesn't burn their kids with cigarette butts is better than Goku, frankly.

omg. That sounds adorable; Gohan is going to be a great dad. Goku is too head-in-the-clouds to successfully take on a parenting role but I feel like since Gohan has experienced **** parenting from Goku and awesome parenting from Piccolo (after that whole year of beating him up, but you know, water under the bridge?) he'll know how to treat his kids.

That pretty much sums up Goku. Yeah, he had a weird life(he wasn't exactly raised like a normal kid in any way. In fact, wasn't he raised by a person who specifically does fighting? Vegeta was raised by other Saiyans, so at the very least he probably knows a bit about proper parenting. And he is still a jerk to Trunks at times. Bulma takes care of Baby Trunks far more often in the show, to note. We rarely see Vegeta interact with anyone but Future Trunks of the two). So I can see why Goku doesn't know jack about parenting.

That isn't to say it's entirely how he was raised being at fault either. He himself fights for fun. It's his pride and interests more than just that the fact he didn't have the most proper of parents. Although to be fair, Chi Chi has her own issues as well. Namely that she even allowed Gohan to fight in the first place, despite the fact he's still a kid and for a person who says she cares about protecting her child, she really only cares more about his future job than him or his own interests. Getting good at school to learn things later in his life is nice, but she is a horrid parent too.

Bulma and Vegeta both are overall better parents because they give a crap about their child and their interests. They're both jerks overall, true, but when it comes to their own kid, it's a different story. Plus, as we've seen, future Trunks is actually pretty smart.

Goku died AGAIN along with literally everyone else EXCEPT Gohan so Gohan held his own against FRIEZA for as long as he could and tried to catch him in the planet Namek's destruction because he was the only one left who could stand up to him,,,, and I was very proud of him because of how brave and strong he was,,,,,,,,,, AND FRICKEN GOKU COMES BACK TO LIFE AND YELLS AT HIM

He didn't actually die there, but the dub in the anime definitely makes it seem that way. In the original manga that part is more clear.

Oh ok, I kinda figured. It doesn't really matter though bc either way Gohan thought he was dead and **** took on Frieza like a BAMF and then got told off for it

If it makes you feel better he yells at Goten, too. Even Trunks. He sort of yells at kids a lot.

That was the most important video I have ever seen in my life.

i have finally reached the first episode of the Cell arc, and the music got really intense suddenly and Trunks spent like 20 minutes explaining basic time travel logic and the mood is getting really creepy and foreboding,, and you guys are all making me very worried that **** is about to get really good and really angsty
