And to nobody's surprise, Pixels is a terrible movie

Somebody outlines everything in the movie here.
I remember when I first saw the trailer any possible excitement plummented once Adam Sandler appeared.
I'm not sure if I even want to see this ironically under the influence of a dozen rum and cokes.

My sisters want to watch it and I'm going to watch it with them and enjoy myself.
Internet opinions be damned.

I thought Adam Sandler might redeem himself with this, but then I remembered that he made Jack and Jill. And then I remembered his entire lineup of movies. After that, all hope fled as it usually does.

Its exciting that a video game movie like this is exposed to the audience again, so hopefully I can just enjoy seeing classic arcade games rendered on the big screen and mentally block Adam Sandlers existence. I just hope it's not Grown Ups 2 with video games.

Regardless of whether people say it's bad or not, I'm going to see this movie.

...you know, I won't say I'm surprised it's bad, but I am a little disappointed.
Like...you know, 'Wreck-It Ralph' was pretty fun and clever, from the not-very-much of it I saw. Clearly there's humour to be derived from video games as a whole. And so I held out hope 'Pixels' would harness a little of that, despite being an Adam Sandler flick (aka an exercise in deliberately not expending any effort at all).

I actually really like the premise. It may seem silly but it's not farfetched to me because aliens can have a completely different interpretation of things. I had hoped though that it would be something more of a parody or satirical, like the tone of Ghostbusters or something, I dunno. Because when Adam Sandler is involved I immediately think "Oh no, it's going to be crass but in that trying-too-hard-so-you-cringe way". But I've yet to see it to effectively form an opinion.

Not interested. The Toru Iwatani cameo in the trailer was funny though.

there's apparently a character in it that's a 4chan regular, makes conspiracy theories, and wants a video game waifu
I mean even though the movie is garbage it still gets points for dissing chanstyle people

The inciting incident of the plot--aliens misinterpreting video games sent into space & attacking the origin planet--was totally ripped off from The Ellimist Chronicles. That book is excellent; read it instead of watching Pixels.
And remember, "I'm-Aximili, number one!"

As soon as I saw the first trailer for this my immediate thought was "Really Adam Sandler? You're just going to stick your hands in the pockets of people wistful for 80s nostalgia?"
I have no desire to see this movie, which actually pains me...one because I grew up with those games (by proxy of my older brothers), but also because I actually really love Adam Sandler's older movies (e.g. The Waterboy). But the dude is washed up now, and this movie is nothing more than a cash grab.

^^^ You mean aside from literally being the point of every space invaders and defender clone
Like 'haha wouldn't it be funny if Space Invaders actually invaded'
no it wouldn't, because that's what they're supposed to do
This premise is suited for a 2-minute internet film by FreddieW

I read that this was initially a short film that Sandler's production company bought the rights to. I mean, the premise of this movie is excellent IMO...but, given his history the past 10 years or so, you just had to know Sandler would turn it into s***.

There has never been a good video game movie, and there will probably never be a good video game movie.
