How is there not a thread for this? Caught this movie today and boy was it good. The new villains were awesome, especially Scarlet Witch.
All in all it was a really good follow up to the first one.

Stateside release is this Friday. I'm going with my ladyfriend.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Watched it already. Not as good as the first one. I liked the focus on Clint. I also liked the twins with their weird accent. Ultron and Hydra could've been more menacing and I didn't like the Jarvis thing. Although Vision was cool. I'm getting sick of the small jokes though. Overall I give it a B.

just got back.
things i liked:
- Ultron: James Spader was ****ing phenomenal with his voicework for Ultron. Seriously
- HAWKEYE SERIOUSLY
- The scenes where they're just hanging out are so fun I'd watch a movie of just banter between them
- When I first saw Vision I wasn't sure I dug it but he was dope in this movie
- Action scenes were great, especially Iron Man vs. Hulk.
- Performances were ace as expected, even though I'm not the biggest Aaron Taylor-Johnson fan
- Speaking of which, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were awesome (though I think I preferred the X-Men: Days of Future Past Quicksilver)
- I liked how the movie didn't hold our hands and feel the need to explain everything that happened in Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2 for those who haven't seen it. They just dove right into the aftermath of Captain America 2 instead of having a bunch of expository dialogue to explain what happened with SHIELD/Hydra
- Loved how much of the final fight scene involved protecting the civilians, considering some superhero movies make it seem like every damn civilian dies *coughManOfSteelcough*
things i didn't like:
- I get that they're doing the long build-up to the Infinity Wars with Thanos, but he's been appearing in cameos since the original Avengers so I just want him to be more active in the universe already
- Hulk/Black Widow was literally out of nowhere and it bugged me. Ruffalo and Johansson are good enough to carry it but it felt tacked on and unncessary
- In general the movie was cluttered. This is probably more the studio's fault than Whedon's but there was just so much going on that it was hard to follow at times (like seriously what the **** was up with Thor's dream-pool thing). It's not as cluttered as something like Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which is honestly the worst superhero adaptation in recent memory) though
- I was happy to see at least cameos from Anthony Mackie, and I'm happy that he was made an official Avenger at the end of the movie. But I don't see why Falcon wasn't with the team the entire time (especially if they had War Machine tagging along). I mean I know that he's searching for Bucky or whatever but c'mon he should've been with the team. Mackie's a great actor and I really want to see more of him.
- The dialogue really worked for the most part, but the entire part where it was basically Stark and Thor explaining why Gwyneth Paltrow and Natalie Portman weren't in the movie was kinda cringey.
Really liked the movie. To me, it was just as good as the first. Couple things I would change, but overall they did a great job. Quicksilver was just not as great as Days of Future Past where his scene was the best in the movie. Really like the Joss Whedon banter. It wasn't over the top like in the first one.

Ewww. Quicksilver? Is Scarlet Witch in as well? More to the point, is Quicksilver in Scarlet Witch?
Good old Ultimates. Brother-sister incest. Also Antman the wife-beater. You know, there were VGFers who recommended Ultimates to me. Yuck. Then I recommended 'Usagi Yojimbo' back, and they acted like I was recommending nazi cannibal paedophilia.
Wyborn liked Ultimates, the big doof.

I find it hilarious that he recommended Ultimates to you shortly before Ultimatum happened.
It's not like I know anything since I only saw Linkara review it.
But yes Scarlet Witch is in it and they are not in an incestuous relationship (that I know of).

The first Avengers was amazing, one of my favorite movies. This one was just... good, not amazing. It felt sloppy, as if there's pieces to an awesome movie here, but they're all just kinda cobbled together. Like in the last movie, the humor and one-liners felt welcome, they made the movie fun and eased the tension, but this time they felt out of place at times, like they interrupted the tone of a lot of scenes. And the action scenes this time around felt a bit more... dare I say it, Michael Bay-ish. Lots of punching and flying and crashing into buildings, kinda lacking of flow and clarity.
That being said, it was still a fun movie, I enjoyed it very much, it just didn't live up to the hype for me, and wasn't as good as the first.

While I enjoyed it, I'd have to say that it was not one of Marvel's strongest efforts. Definitely was't one of it's weaker ones either, though. Part of the problem with it is that it sort of felt like an effort to outdo the first one.
It almost felt like the same movie again. Team comes together. Team fights. Team fights each other. Witty (but damn funny) banter in slow moments. Villain appears almost comically inept at moments. Fury gives a speech which causes everyone to work together. Apocalyptic threat destroys a city. Someone dies. Thanos appears in the credit sequence again.
The first step towards making a better sequel is just not just making something bigger, longer, louder and having more of it. The only main reason this one felt weaker to me than the first one is because it came second. It just felt like more of the same.

Avengers movies are always funny, but they have one fatal flaw:
There are too many characters and not enough screentime to make all of them relevant to the plot in a more-than-superficial way.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. First movie suffered from a similar problem but it had a newness to it that somewhat overcame it. Overall I was just a little disappointed tbh.[DOUBLEPOST=1430639269,1430638824][/DOUBLEPOST]
I felt like you could cut out every interaction between everyone that wasn't ultron/someone and tony stark/someone and still pretty much have the same movie tbh
I mean I get that the movie was about tony stark and ultron but everyone else in the film just kind of took a backseat to Robert Downey Jr. While this is not necessarily a bad thing and he is a great actor, it kind of took away from the movie as a whole if you ask me and kind of made me question whether or not you could really call it Avengers or if it should really have been titled Iron Man 4
/shrug
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with Panfan's sentiment that it got a little too cluttered at times, but I guess it really did feel like a comic book in that regard.
I still like the first one better, but this movie was still awesome.

Witty (but damn funny) banter

"But"? I would argue that if it's not funny, then it doesn't qualify as witty in the first place. :P
^Shush you. What I meant was a successful attempt to be witty. Not everything that tries succeeds.

The kid has a point about Thor. I guess someone has to be on clean-up duty while the guys that can fly and hit hard are off tanking.
