So. Like, the most recent superhero movie I've watched was 'Iron Man 2'.

I'm not slightly interested in watching the Captain America movies (Cap is about the most boring superhero this side of Superman), or these recent Spider-Man things. I can maybe see checking out the Thor movies. Thor is cool.

So, question--------do I have to watch all them damn things to know what's going on in the 'Avengers' flick, or 'Guardians of the Galaxy'? I know they're all interconnected, but I could literally give not one hoot about some of these jackasses. (Watch me not care about any of the dumb teevee shows.) (Oh, and anyone who's hyped about the upcoming 'Ant-Man' flick...like, are you for real? Knock it off. Like who the hell do you think you're foolin.)

No you can skip some of them. Unless it's a direct sequel any connection is more or less foreshadowing if I remember right.

No, Avengers and Guardians stand alone very well (especially Guardians). When you watch Avengers you will probably miss a few nods and references, but it won't ruin the experience at all.

I'd highly recommend watching Cap 2, though. That movie is WAY more than just a Captain America movie. I'm not sure if you'd have to see Cap 1 to understand it, but you'd definitely at least have to see the Avengers first.

Also, I'm pumped for Ant Man, because Guadrians of the Galaxy proved to me that Marvel can take a lesser-known property and turn it into something really great.

I'm not pumped for 'Ant-Man', because Ant-Man sucks.

Marvel can't make a halfway-decent movie about the Punisher (the Punisher, man---------like, the easiest character you could ever make a movie about. you don't have to animate any superpowers, you just have to show a guy being really angry and shootin dudes) (also Punisher comics are about the best series Marvel has had going the past fifteen years). And now here they're trying to sell a movie about the one character they have who's even less relevant than the sh*tty Fantastic Four. Good grief.

I really liked Ant-Man in the Avengers cartoon. He created Ultron (tho apparently not in the movies) who created Vision, and he also created his own powers for himself and the Wasp using SCIENCE. TBH, I'm not really pumped for the movie, but I think I'll enjoy it and have hopes for it.

I found Cap 1 mediocre, but Cap 2 was really good. It does make references to Cap 1 and Avengers tho, so not sure how much you will miss if you don't watch those, but either way it was well done. Avengers was my fav Marvel movie, the dynamics between the characters is awesome. Guardians was silly and quite stand-alone compared to the others, tho it may tie into the third Avengers movie. I didn't like it as much, but it was enjoyable and most people liked it.

^^The old Punisher movie wasn't done by the current studio, though, so I wouldn't blame Marvel for that. And they can't make another Punisher, because they don't have the movie rights at the moment.

Liking your post for the last line specifically.

I've never been a big captain america fan, and I have been forced to watch the winter soldier ~5 times, and I kinda really hate it. It's just so boring, idk, don't enjoy it at all.

yeah the Marvel Studios films really don't compare to the Spider-Man, Punisher, Fantastic Four, etc. titles at all. It seems that Marvel Studios does a really fantastic job at getting people who care about the properties on board to make things solid. Even the weaker Marvel Studios films (Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, the Thor movies) are a trillion times better than their Fox/Columbia Pictures counterparts (except maybe X-Men. The latest X-Men movies have been really fun)

If you're interested in the new Spider-Man movies, the first one is okay but dear God the second one is atrocious.

I've never cared much for the Captain America character but I thought the first film was all right and the second was really good. They go a long way to making the characters likeable. I kind of feel like the second Captain America film, which is more spy-thriller than superhero movie, would lose a lot of its value without the first Capt film.

It's kind of like all of the payout for the first film is in the second one, and it riffs heavily off the Avengers.

The Avengers was pretty good as a film on its own. The only part of the franchise it really heavily ties into before it is Thor, although the Captain America stuff helps it. Thor's fantasy roots and more supernatural qualities help him as a character outside of the films, but as a result a lot of what goes on in the films lacks weight. What it does well is setup the villain, though.

Boo, you're right to stray from Captain America's movies. The first is a tragedy and the second isn't a lot better, couldn't finish it. Amazing Spider-Man manages to be even worse.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a bit forced but way better than lame ass Avengers.

I heard the first Captain America flick was directed (?) (written, maybe?) by the same guy who did 'The Rocketeer' (a movie I really like), and that the Captain America movie feels a lot like 'The Rocketeer' except way worse.

Is Ant-Man going to be an impenitent wife-beater in the movie the way he is in the comics? Because that's an important facet of this excellent, terrific character, and I think showing that side of him would make audiences just love love love him, the way he deserves.

^ The first Captain America definitely has the pulpy feel of The Rocketeer, particularly because it all takes place in WW2.

I'm not excited for Ant Man because I think Ant Man is a good character. I'm excited for Ant Man because this current Marvel Studios is making some good-ass movies.

though edgar wright not directing ant-man is probably the biggest bummer ever

i'd LOVE to see what a guy like wright would do with a comic book property (well, a mainstream comic book property since he already made a brilliant movie based on an indie comic)

I think the last time I watched a Marvel film was in 2002.
