Naruto finished ????

#1

Post by Apollo the Just » Wed Nov 12, 2014 11:39 pm

I didn't see this coming, honestly. What's next, One Piece finishes? DETECTIVE CONAN? ??? nah that'll never happen lmao

In honor of this grand event I started watching Naruto from the beginning "ironically" and as with everything I watch "ironically" I got invested and now am in love with Rock Lee.

Rock Lee and Gai Sensei for best characters, discuss.

Yes. Rock Lee and Gai are the absolute best. While everyone else gets DBZ powers, those two stick to hand to hand combat.

And let's not forget DYNAMIC ENTRY!

nah but for real oda said it was only like halfway done and i lol evertim but hey dude, i am not complaining, one piece is my ****

as for naruto, i actually had not seen anything from it in years until i heard it was ending and i peeped the last couple of chapters. the last chapter was hella phoned-in, but idk, i'm not a big fan of kishimoto's non rock lee/might gai work so i may have a bit of a bias

Stopped reading a while back. 'Bout time it finished. I hope Bleach ends soon, too. Once the ideas dry up just quit, like Akira Toriyama.

but if you are oda never stop

like, i am convinced oda has been granted immortality and complete immunity to exhaustion so he can do nothing but draw one piece from now until the eventual heat-death of the cosmos

eggs and bacon, i was mistaken

**** luffy will still be drawn hearing zoro say "this isn't our fight luffy" well past the eventual cessation of all living matter, one final singularity of oda still somehow churning chapters out well into arc 5,877 of the New New New New World Secret Line Northwest Blue Pirate Nexus super-arc of the manga

and buggy will STILL BE RELEVANT SOMEHOW

One Piece, huh? The only familiarity I have with it is the first episode and also Cross Epoch. Which, I'll admit, the latter of which was pretty cool.

What is it you guys like about it? Is it comparable to any other manga?

Well I meant Naruto but One Piece was easily my favourite anime before Cowboy Bebop.

^^One Piece is one of my fave fictional universes because it's colorful, expansive, and always a pleasure to read. Oda doesn't really do a lot of innovating on the typical Shonen story structure here, but somehow he manages to find depth and passion in each of his heroes and villains. The character designs are always so fun and quirky, and the villains never fail to be super entertaining. He successfully pulled off easily my favorite "War" Arc a few years ago and he continues to push his art forward even today, which I love to see in a professional artist. It's a quirky, light-hearted world that has surprising depth (Film Z drew a tear from my eye) and a lot of well-constructed world-building. There's a legitimate sense of adventure, and Oda does an amazing job keeping all of the locales interesting and fresh from island to island. I mean it when I say it is REALLY **** EXPANSIVE and Oda has some sort of policy about never killing off characters, so there's tons and tons of characters to love, and somehow Oda STILL manages to make each one unique and dynamic. The power scale on characters gets pretty nutters (it's Shonen manga after all), but I feel like it's still fairly balanced and there were always hints of that level of power (stuff like Haki is hinted at as early as chapter one).

If you were to start watching, be aware that the beginning doesn't quite even scratch the surface of whats to come. I think One Piece really comes into its own right after the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc, though it definitely hints at that coolness factor a lot in the arcs prior and i personally think that each arc leading into the second half of the manga/anime is still hella rad (Crocodile's very existence being a good example). Still, that's a long way in, and I am by no means saying it's bad up until that point. It's always a blast to read/watch and Oda's the dude.

^ Your enthusiasm makes me want to give it another chance. The only bad part is you said nobody gets killed off. I don't need The Walking Dead levels of character death but once in a while an
L or at least an Android 16 needs to kick the bucket.

there are actually a good number of major deaths peppered throughout. oda just doesn't kill every villain, and such. haha.
(tagged as spoiler juuuuust in case, but no details within.)

I love One Piece so much it has made me cry more than like any other series

Granted, it has the length to do so, but it pulls it really well

I loved Naruto so much when I was younger. I'd be interested in watching it beginning-to-end again, except it's like 40 years long.
