As you know, My Little Pony took the world by storm when it came out. The question is, why? What contributed to its success? I'm pretty sure nobody expected the show to become as popular as it has.

Word of mouth spread like wildfire online. It seemed like MLP became a phenomenon overnight. When the internet finds something it likes, it catches on really quickly.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

It's nice. Not everything one takes in has to have loads of explosions and guts and boobies and people screaming at each other-----sometimes a body just wants something pleasant.

The original run? Aggressive marketing & successfully playing off the "girls love ponies" stereotype.
Friendship Is Magic? Quality writing & subverting the pony stereotypes.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It brought positivity into people's lives and emphasised traits people see as good - friendship, caring, humour, etc - without the usual dramatic and violent overtones.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.

It's set in an idyllic pastoral fantasyland where things are a little softer and slower and gentler in general. Like the Shire, but with adorable candy-coloured horseys instead of fat filthy little hobbitses.

It's made by Lauren Faust, who also worked on The Iron Giant, The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home. And she's married to Craig McCracken. CN fanboys unite.

I really liked the laid back tone of the show with some suspense and what felt like a big in universe world that was open for exploration.
And really i can't diss a show that says be nice to everyone and accept folks for who they are.
Beep Boop absolutely not a bot!

I've never seen MLP but I'm glad Bronies are a thing that exists.

I've never actually seen any of it. I used to dig Powerpuff Girls, though.

Well, with the exception of that Bratz movie they branded as MLP.
