Eyeshield 21 is amazing and my favorite part about it is that the reason protag is super fast and good at football is because he got really good at running away from bullies due to being a loser in middle school

Mostly because let's be real any sports anime made in the last 5 years is just a thinly veiled FRIENDSHIP: the series. Like, even more so than other anime, which also tends to be FRIENDSHIP: the series. So I'll watch Football Anime and Baseball Anime and Volleyball Anime because they're about a bunch of dumbass teenagers being adorable and becoming super bffs 5ever through magical anime powers they express through sports

Basically, they're almost exactly the same as magical girl anime, except with boys, but that's kind of the only difference, and therefore they are great

The only sport-themed anime Val is familiar with is Midori no Makibaō, which is notable because A) all of the humans in it are hideous, and 2) the horses are handsome as ****.
