Disney Descendants

This sounds like a bad fanfic.
In news that sounds like it would make a better “Saturday Night Live” sketch than an actual original film, Deadline has word that The Disney Channel has ordered an original live-action film that will focus on the teenage descendants of Disney villains like Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmatians), Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), the Evil Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) and Jafar (Aladdin).

Descendants will be directed by High School Musical director and choreographer Kenny Ortega and feature some kind of contemporary adventure comedy that sees the villain’ offspring questioning the pure evil that has been passed down to their hearts by their parents.

The script comes from Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott (of “The Starter Wife” and Runaway Bride) and sets the story in a kingdom where Beast and Belle from Beauty and the Beast are getting ready to take the throne. As his first act as king, Beast (still human?) is offering these villainous teens a chance at redemption.

Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay (descendants of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar respectively) have been imprisoned on a forbidden islan with the rest of Disney’s bad guys, sidekicks, step-mothers, etc. but they are allowed back into the kingdom to attend a prep school alongside the sons and daughters of Disney’s heroes like Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, Rapunzel and the Fairy Godmother. However, the evil teens must choose whether they should follow in their dastardly parents’ footsteps and help them regain power or embrace their inherent goodness and save the kingdom.

I'm so glad we're completely ignoring the settings & endings of all of those movies so that villains who lived hundreds of years apart & who are dead, imprisoned, or physically incapable of reproduction can all have teenage children at the same time.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

So what does a character who's pretty much pure evil, like a Maleficent, have to talk about with a mere ambitious villain like Jafar, or a mundane mean lady like Cruella DeVil? Eye makeup, perhaps?

More to the point, what (aside from sh*tty writing) would cause the offspring of any of said characters automatically to be evil, or even to be considered evil? Seriously. We currently inhabit a culture in which even 'My Little Pony' can manage more nuance than that----maybe Disney needs to step up its game a hair, for heaven's sake.

"So, what are you guys in here for?"
"My ancestor put some woman to sleep, turned into a dragon and did some assorted evil stuff. You?"
"My ancestor damaged toys. What about you, Pete?"
"*assorted Greek*"
"*assorted Chinese*"
"*assorted French*"
"*assorted lion noises*"

Having "all the powers of Hell!" at your disposal is completely the same as a wealthy, middle aged fashionista that is obsessed with dalmation coats.

But, it would be hilarious if the descendant of Shan Yu(Mulan) was there. We all get urges to get on a horse to go pillage and burn China sometimes. It's in the blood.

What's next? A movie with the teenage sons and daughters of the Mandarin, Red Skull, Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, and Abomination?

The funny thing is, you're all mocking Cruella, but she's the only one of the 4 main characters' ancestors who didn't die & thus could potentially produce a teenage offspring.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Nevermind that the stars of Beauty and the Beast, set in early-18th century France, are somehow king and queen in the present day.

^Or that Beast lost any authority he had outside of his own castle grounds when he got Beasted.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It sounded interesting, but the more I read, the more it drifted towards "what the hell?"

Interesting like an accident, I guess.
