THE Simpsons has paid a final tribute to one of our favourite characters — the sassy Springfield Elementary teacher Edna Krabappel.

Actress Marcia Wallace, who voiced Mrs Krabappel, passed away in October, 2013 after a long battle with breast cancer. Wallace won an Emmy for her voice work on the 1992 Simpsons episode, Bart the Lover.

The touching episode, which aired in the US overnight, was entitled The Man Who Grew Too Much and focused on the return of villain Sideshow Bob. The final scene was saved for a heartwarming moment in which Ned Flanders remembers his wife Edna and the pair dance together.

“I sure do miss that laugh”, Flanders laments.
