Glee star Cory Monteith has been found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver.

The 31-year-old, who played Finn Hudson in the TV series, was reportedly discovered on Saturday local time by hotel staff at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel.

Police have ruled out foul play and no cause of death has been confirmed.

Monteith was admitted to a drug rehabilitation facility in April this year and has openly discussed his battle with drug addiction in the past.

The Canadian actor checked into the hotel and was due to leave today. Hotel staff became concerned when he failed to check out on time.

They went to his room and discovered his body at midday, local time.

that's unfortunate. I have some very negative opinions of the TV show that he was on, but Monteith was clearly talented.

When I first saw this headline (elsewhere, not your thread, Hottie), I thought it was somebody's sick idea of a joke. This isn't devastating for me personally, but as somebody who's lost a family member to substance abuse, I can imagine what his own loved ones are going through. :(

^From my twitter account, it hasn't. The case is still be discussed pretty intensively.

Also, two people died - it's okay for talk about both. It's okay for people to mourn both. Twitter is not the end-all be-all of determining what's important news.

Also trending: George Zimmerman, #JusticeForTrayvon, and #TrayvonMartin. They've been trending since last night. Hell, they've been trending this entire past week, along with other things like: Not Guilty, #NoJusticeForTrayvon, #IfIEverSeeGeorgeZimmerman, "First Casey Anthony...", etc. etc. Every major news station is going to spend hours every day for the next few days talking about the Trayvon Martin case.

I think this is a very ignorant statement. A tv show preference and a person's knowledge of current events do not necessarily intercept. Plus what you said assumes that you believe Trayvon's death was more significant to know about and that's just wrong. Both stories are extremely heartbreaking because someone died.

Disagree. Trayvon's death is more significant to know about because of the implications about gun laws and racial prejudice (you're fooling yourself if you don't believe that had anything to do with it), especially in regard to society's dismissal of young Black men as "disposable."

^^ I totally understand what you're saying. This case brought out issues that were worth discussing and good for people to hear. However, I'm of the belief that the trial shouldn't have been aired to the public in the first place out of respect for Trayvon's family and loved ones. I don't necessarily agree with everything this article says but I do believe the sentiment. If NBC is going to cover something, they need to get it right. The media changed details to fit what the public was saying and what America wanted to believe. If I was Trayvon's friend it would anger me so much for anyone to get the story wrong or lie about what happened. Putting his death out there as a household name because of his death would kill me. Seeing his name on every news stand, constantly hearing people discussing him, his story being all over the news...I just think it's insensitive.

No individual death 'matters' more than one other. The circumstances surrounding Trayvon's death are more important, yes - for the reasons you stated, Bomby. But lets be respectful and mourn both, because in each case, they were loved and left behind family.


Start a new thread to talk about the implications of Trayvon's death (which I don't disagree with you on the points you've made). But this isn't the place.

My apologies. I didn't want to imply that Montieth's death is less important in and of itself. Just the social implications. I'd feel the same way his fans do if an actor I was a fan of passed away, especially at what appears to be the height of his career so far.
