1. Looks like it's time for me to read the book finally!
2. I did not expect this to be a summer blockbuster movie. How will it fare against IronSuperBatSpiderHeroPlagueMan?
3. I like Jay-Z but he seems kind of unfitting to do the soundtrack...
4. ... but then again it's directed by Baz Luhrmann of Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet notoriety.

I didn't realize it was releasing so close to Iron Man 3. Superhero movies are almost always impossible to beat in terms of public attention/ticket sales. I want to see it, but it might be something that gets put on the shelf until it hits redbox.

I just hope poor Leo can finally get an Oscar.

I like me some roaring twenties, but yeah the Jay-Z thing is kind of a bummer.

I say that as a Jay-Z superfan. It's just not fitting.

Blech.

Yeah, as much as I love TGG, really worried about this whole Jay-Z thing.

^^ True that. When I saw the soundtrack list, I was just so very confused.

So the reaction of the critical community has been generally negative, no? Some have said the film simply lacks taste and strives to make up for it in excess, which is interesting in that the character Gatsby's strongest flaws could be summed up in the same fashion.

^ You should hear MovieBob's impression of the movie. It sounds like it's taken Gatsby with a slightly different twist... accentuating Gatsby as a hero and tucking away his more insidious tendencies away a bit... but in the end it still seems interesting even if it's not an amazing work. It'd be definitely nice to see that book come to life in any way.

^^That's actually one of the reasons a friend of mine who's an English teacher is going to recommend the movie to her students.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
