The Master teaser trailer
I haven't been this excited for a movie in a very long time.
The Master stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a figure inspired by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, who takes in a troubled young man (Joaquin Phoenix).
The film won Best Actor and Best Director at the Venice Film Festival last week, and the Jury would have awarded the film Best Picture as well were it not for a rule saying Best Picture winners can't win any other awards.
The film's director, Paul Thomas Anderson, is best known for directing such films as Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, and my personal favorite of his, Magnolia. I'd personally argue that he is the best film director working today (the only director coming close is Bong Joon-Ho). The Guardian seems to agree with me as well. Judging by the reviews this movie is getting so far, it appears that he's still on top of his game.
