How often do you watch older movies as compared to new releases?

More often? Less often? Almost equally? This is an academic inquiry.
... or just an inquiry that will probably never influence my academic aspirations at all.

More often, as older movies will likely air on cable networks where I won't have to spend more money to watch it.

Depends heavily upon the available films, but generally I prefer to watch newer films because I enjoy modern aesthetics and I've seen my favorite classics to death.

Almost as equally.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Just as with music, I have a habit of seeking out more new movie releases as compared to old.

It depends on the type of film. A lot of fantastical stuff before CGI just wasn't good, and fight choreography in most hollywood releases was very mundane for a good piece of time. It's strange how it actually took time for a lot of them to figure out that a martial arts expert would be an asset. Not that I have anything against Die Hard, because it was awesome.
My interest in film mostly starts in the 70s, when I feel significant effort was being put into all production aspects. There's a lot of talent going into the scripts and acting before then, perhaps much more, but the technological hurdles were placed very high.

Pretty much what AI said. Anything before the 70's, or even 80's feels primitive to me, so I only watch old movies if the movie is a classic, or is good without needing too many effects (2001 and 12 Angry Men are among my favorites). I'd say the time around Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park marks a point in which "modern" films start for me, ones that I prefer watching.

I actually consider the 1970s to be the greatest decade in American cinema, so I'm curious about which types of films from that era you guys are interested in.
