What's your favourite Star Wars movie?

I consider 'A New Hope' and 'Empire Strikes Back' the best of the series. 'Return of the Jedi' comes damn near that level.

My favorite is Return of the Jedi, though I know that most people do not agree with me on that.

I know it will ignite anger and probably ban me from this site lol, but my favorite movie is Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. *prepares for onslaught of insults*

^De gustibus non disputandum. If TPM is your favourite, then it's your favourite, and that's that. For what it's worth, I'd say it's the best of the prequels.

^^'Jedi' is awesome. About the only thing I'd say against it is that the sequence in Jabba's palace doesn't really gel well with the Endor sequence---there's a clear disconnect there, which makes 'Jedi' kind of feel like two half-movies rather than one whole.

Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The Empire Strikes Back, without question. When I was rewatching the original trilogy last fall, it was the only one that truly captured the same feeling I had about it while I was younger. Not that I didn't enjoy the other two, but they weren't quite what they were when I was younger. Well, the second half of A New Hope did, too.

The battles in RotS don't have any narrative weight. It's just one group of neutrally-aligned completely interchangeable pawns being directed against another. I guess one could derive enjoyment from watching that, the same way you might enjoy watching a football game between two teams you don't care at all about.

I'm not saying TPM is loads better, but there's at least a chance of emotional involvement at seeing actual people fight for their homes against an invading force. Plus, this was before the whole prequel saga became a massive clustercuss of 'all right, so both sides are taking orders directly from Chancellor Satan---so why the hell should we be rooting for anyone?'

Like, the second Palpaltine takes supreme power, the war becomes immaterial---the only interesting thing is seeing if anyone in-universe is going to realise what's actually going on.

Hardly any of the prequel battle scenes had any narrative weight whatsoever. The closest one would be the Darth Maul lightsaber fight, but that's really only because Quigon dies.

And what a sad and tragic death it was. ought to be a better way to teach obi-wan a lesson.

My goodness I could watch that movie 20 times in a row and not get sick of it.

So I was thinking about this a lot at work last night---it's really to the prequel saga's detriment that we so rarely see the bad guys do actual bad things.

Return of the Jedi! Really, this is a Star Wars movie! This is what tells us all, "Star Wars is awesome!". I know alot of people will facepalm at this one, but, I actually enjoyed the musical thing in the Special Eidiotion. Random? Definitely! But it was still kind of cool sounding! Besides, that weird dog.....mouse......monkey......thing is awesome! And random clips of Boba Fett standing around looking awesome is good too!

Man, RotS really did have a great ending and interesting characters. The music is really, really epic too.

I hate RotS.
