Fangirling

Before you ask, no, this is not a gender-discriminatory thread. Boys can fangirl too.

Now then, on to more important matters.

How do YOU fangirl? Let's say there's this awesome show that you totally love. It's, like, the best thing ever. And you are what may or may not be described as "obsessed" with it. In what manner do you convey your love of this show?

I know this is gonna shock like everyone here but I tend to get across my love of whatever I'm currently fangirling over by allowing it to completely and pathetically absorb every facet of my life. I draw fanarts, I make cosplays [if I'm obsessed with the one thing long enough to put a cosplay together, that is], and VGF always knows about it because I talk about all of its merits incessantly and refuse to admit that it has any flaws whatsoever.

I just don't allow anyone to not know what I am currently head-over-heels for. It is just not permissible.

However, I am aware that there are some people who for some strange reason are able to enjoy things on a milder scale and not drown in their feels for said thing??? this concept is alien to me so plz halp i dun get it

I changed my religion on Facebook to Haruhiism. My avatar at the other forum I frequent is the final image of Haruhi Suzumiya sticking her tongue out in Someday in the Rain is my avatar. A larger version of this is my desktop background:

Also, the main character of the movie I'm planning on shooting this summer will probably wear a yellow ribbon in her hair at some point as an homage to the fact that the whole idea of having an esper in my movie was influenced by The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I also love to say "sumoku cheezu" and "nyoro~n" in mildly appropriate situations.

I would explain it, but due to how frequent this fan phenomenon is, I'm starting to think perhaps fangasms are the norm and I'm the alien.

I guess I need to find myself some professional help. Maybe buy some Mario merch or something.

I'm a fan of lots of things, but I've never been a fanboy.

Ironically I'm one of the more subtle, quieter fangirls... until you like the subject that I like, and get me talking. Then you find out...

I pretty much immerse myself in it if I'm passionate enough. I talk about it, I draw fanart of it, I come up with theories, storylines, extensive research, concept art, Roleplaying... the whole nine yards. I create entire worlds within worlds. It's like... writing a book. My passion's literally gone to writing, roleplaying, and concept designing entire storylines based off of the Robot Masters, Stardroids, and whatever Megaman OC's that I come up with (in fact some OC's not even related to canon storyline outside of pass mentioning). Less on Doctor Who but I'm getting there.

Outside of that... I think the most I've ever gotten in terms of merchendise and fangirling was going to one convention, and then I have a couple of Doctor Who Merchandise, and the Archie Megaman comics as well as the Ariga mangas. And a Shadow Man figure but nobody's supposed to know about that.

My special ability though is to get people into said series. Seriously, I've turned two of my family members, and several of my friends into Whovians. Mom's literally obsessed with the 'Utopia' specials of Doctor Who.

i'd say regular show for me. it's the only show i ship (mordecai x rigby otp) and have headcanon and stuff like that, and it's one of the few cartoons that i watch regularly and actually catch up on. i do fanart (nothing uploaded) and i want to get an RS shirt but i have no money

does that count

Thank you all for your important ideas and input. I am a firm believer that the different forms in which we all express our varying degrees of enthusiasm represent but one of many layers of diversity that help enrich the global community here at VGF. Without such diversity, where would we be?

And without the crazy fans like us who would there be to make you normal fans look slightly more sane? You should be thanking us.

And then you have the CRAAAAAZY fans who make us crazy fans look slightly less far gone.

And then there are even crazier ones than those. And on and on it goes until you reach the single craziest fan ever, and then you just have to hope it's not you. And if it is, congratulations on beating out a LOT of heavy competition.

HOORAY.

But in all seriousness it IS interesting to see the different kinds of fans in every fandom. There really is a ton of variety.

ok now that I'm done choking on my own melange of bitter sarcasm and this weird thing that somewhat resembles sincerity

dude, Bomby, the hair ribbon thing in your film is awesome. If I can get away with it, I like to pay homages to my fandoms in things I create, as well. Nothing with any substance that would constitute even borderline plagiarism to the naziest of teachers, just something that only I know is a homage. Something like the hair ribbons. Or me including a chicken with a blue feather in it in a story I wrote in middle school that had nothing to do with marriage proposal but everything to do with my Harvest Moon obsession.

Loot if you do that cosplay I will run away screaming
...to your location so I can hug you for being the best person ever
-
Chunky, my tumblr is in a similar state. Let's just say I've had it for a year so far, and as of today, the most recent 70% of it is almost entirely Homestuck. Which I discovered a little over a month ago. So yeah, I think I can relate to the COMPLETE AND UTTER OBSESSION thing. A smidgen.
-
AS and Val, you guys are boring and weird and whoah did I just call Val boring I think I'm gonna stop myself here before the apocalypse happens
-
Lilac I totally feel you on every level. Omg. I follow a pretty steady pattern of completely and utterly obsessing myself in one thing, and then finding another thing to be obsessed with, and then another. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's through sheer fangirlism alone that I manage to convert some people, and those conversions are the most fulfilling things ever
-
^ I'd say shipping is indicative of fandom membership. I don't usually ship unless it's a fandom I'm REALLY into.

---------

I'm capable of enjoying things on a mild scale too I promise. There are things I really like, and then things I am ridiculous about. It just amazes me that there are people who are not ridiculous about anything and I'm like how do you even do that

hello everyone this has been a giant post of cl talking to everyone and not saying anything

yaaaay fandoms

dont mind me im gonna go live in my own world and partially exist in the mortal realm too

as per the usual and all that so nothing new

I haven't thrown nearly enough money at Hussie yet considering the amounts of fangirl I have toward his creations

That said, I have blown TONS of money on awesome anime stuff. I only have one FMA figurine though and that is a problem

Mega Man and ponies. That's about 90% of my brain mass.

Also, I have a bunch of corresponding merch.

I stopped being excited about things overall, I can't really say why. I suppose there's just a lot of "seen it all" going on for me, and I feel like I should concentrate on what I can do myself, now.

That's probably a smart thing for your brain to have done. I realized recently that I have way more passion for what others make/do than what I actually accomplish myself, which is probably not great in terms of career goals.

In the meantime, it's loads of fun, so I'll just keep being crazy and enjoy it while my youthful abandon persists.

You should see the concept I have of an entire crossover series with almost everything I'm obsessed with. Just the idea of The Doctor riding Arceus while **** explodes in the background makes you want to explode with delightness.

You guys should see my Megaman folder. Then again, 90% of it is full of Taro artwork. I believe that's his name.

I don't really go OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME and run around screaming in my underwear but i show some sighns here and there as in i have some sweet T-shirts some more obvius than others and do i have to say that my fuzzy dices have 20 sides?

Im more damn this is impressive let's see what this might lead up too but im easy to entertain so i don't know really.

Best thing i can think of was when i got my car stuck and went to get our excavator to get it unstuck when i was runign late to a motörhead consert, nothing stops me when im goign to a Motörhead consert.

I kind of can imagine myself as a 90-year-old lady who sleeps on a giant pile of scalemates and stuffed Toothlesses of various colors, sewing a new one every day to help myself cope with the fact that there are no more Dragon movies and Homestuck is finished, as I re-read/watch them for the umpteenth time, having memorized all of their content.

I would be ok with that.

I think Professor Layton will still be ongoing by then.

Oh man

Watch out when you walk by Crazy Fan Lady's house

She'll throw her plushies at you
