Spring 2012 Anime -- What'cha watching?

This is the best Spring 2012 season anime primer that I've found:
Spring 2012 Preview! | Random Curiosity
I'm picking up these series:
- Hyouka - Kyoto Animation's latest series. I'm a fan of all of the anime that KyoAni's pumped out these past few years (Haruhi, K-ON!, Nichijou, Clannad), so I'm watching this out of loyalty. The description sounds kind of interesting too, though I'm not sure what sort of genre they're going for: Mystery? Slice of life? Romance?
- Natsuiro Kiseki (Summer Miracle) - Looks like a slice-of-life cute-girls-doing-cute-things school anime. Also, with miracles? Dunno.
- Upotte!! - It's set at a high school, and all the characters are anthropomorphized guns, or something like that. I'm definitely checking out a few episodes, at least.
Other ones I was thinking of picking up:
- Nazo no Kanojou X - (Mystery Girl X) Based on the PV, it has a retro style that makes it look like it was made twenty years ago. The subject matter makes it seem kind of, um, intimate, if you catch my drift.
- Medaka Box - Another high-school-life anime. It's made by Gainax though, so I'm going to see if other people are hyping this up. I'm not a fan of fanservice though (which is, in retrospect, baffling).
- Accel World - This seems to be the action anime to peg your hopes on this season.
Right now I'm in a holding pattern, waiting to see which groups will sub what anime. In the midst of my own [thread=80353]post-anime depression syndrome[/thread] following Winter 2012, I'm eager to have something fill up a few half-hour slots in my week.

Medaka Box gets pretty insane. It becomes an over the top battle shounen that hates itself. I don't know if the anime will get that far though.

You've read the manga?

At the moment, between bouts of Detective Conan and One Piece [I tend to leave both alone for months on end and then mega-splurge until I catch up again, lather rinse repeat] I'm good for the time being.
I actually don't really like watching series as they come out if I can avoid it, just because I am such a splurger and I hate waiting. So if anything good comes out this season I'll be one of those people who waits until next year and then watches all of it at once.

Still doing Fist of the North Star, although I'm hoping to be able to get into the Gaiden movies (Particularly Raoh's second one involving Souther) and NEW Fist of the North Star, preferably the dubbed ones.
May look into a new series that, like FotNS, is good and not crap.

This! I can't watch anime as it comes out because I forget about it. I like to be able to watch when it's convenient for me. And if it happens I can watch the whole series all at once, I'll want to do it.
I didn't look too long, but Kimi to Boku 2 caught my eye since I just recently started watching
the first part of the series.
I was thinking of checking out
Another soon, but I probably have over a hundred things on my list that I haven't gotten around to yet. <_>

There's something to be said about watching something just released to the entire world, watching the conversation about it evolve, talking with people who also just saw it. I really started getting on the "latest episode treadmill" with the Madoka series. Since I live out of my RSS reader, I subscribe to the sub groups' blogs and get alerts when there's a new release.
You get a little bit of that post-anime depression feeling every week, and it can be a good thing. It's a good thing when you have a release valve for it; talking to other people about how great that episode was, or browsing fan-art inspired by the latest episode. I have a theory this probably works best for short run anime (~13 episodes), since they have more meat on them per episode than the >100 episode epic sagas.
I've found that if I just watch a series all in one go, a lot of it just washes over me. And then I have no one to talk to! Everyone's already watched it months ago. I only have stale blog posts to console me.

Ok I'm going to keep this brief on account of CL-goddammit-stop-posting-about-Homestuck-everywhere, but I do know the feeling of watching conversations, theories, ideas, [strike]ships[/strike], and opinions evolve as new material comes out due to being caught up, being on top of every update, and being sad when there's no more to splurge on for multiple hours every day, and there IS something to be said about it. The fandom is active and usually interesting and it makes you feel like a part of something.
On the other hand, being able to just sit down and watch hours and hours and hours of whatever anime at a time because it's already been out forever is also fun.

That's true. I guess I just haven't been doing any marathoning of anime/TV/whatever in a while; the most I can manage is one or two episodes a day.

It looks like
K-On! will be my next series. Watched the first episode the other night. I'm mostly interested because of the supposed rivalry between fans of this and fans of
Haruhi Suzumiya which, as anyone who has read VGF in the past month or so knows, I rather enjoyed.
understatement of the year
I'll probably watch
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water as well. I never did finish
Gunbuster (which is sad, considering that it's only six episodes long...), so I might just start that over and do a speed run.

Whatever. I've been doing the same with
Haruhi Suzumiya. Sort of.

Fans of Haruhi hate K-On!! because A: it's lucky star 2.0 and B: KyoAni focuses on that instead of more Haruhi.

And I pretty much only reference FotNS [strike]and make brief mention on how much Conan and FMA:B and HtTYD suck[/strike] so we're all even.
K-On is one of those animus (lul Auto Correct recognizes animus) that makes me stay away from anime in general. The characters, the plots, they just reek of "why would anyone be proud of watching this".
You know, like My Little Pony.

K-On is enjoyable I guess. Ace was right when he described it as a fastfood anime. Don't expect to be blown away by meaningful life lessons and you'll be fine.

Eh. I'm an academic anyway. Very rarely am I as interested in the content as much as the form. I do tend to enjoy slice-of-life narratives, and music is a subject matter that does interest me. At best, it could be an animated equivalent to Nobuhiro Yamashi ta's absolutely wonderful film
Linda Linda Linda. At worst, it could be an animated equivalent to a Disney channel movie of the week.

ha ha if you think K-On!! is going to be about music for 52 episodes straight

Will it be about friendship? No, don't tell me. Don't tell me anything.

Well, it's rarely about music. A lot of the episodes play with the idea that the girls rarely pick up their instruments. The episodes where they do play music are pretty awesome.
I like the music though. I liberated all of the character songs and I still have them on my playlist. I'm not sure what that says about me. =/
