Both of these movies are getting an insane amount of hype, but which one are you more amped up for?

Most definitely the Dark Knight Rises. I have yet to be disappointed by a Christopher Nolan movie and he's on a bit of a hot streak with his last 2 (Dark Knight, Inception).

Can't say I'm especially excited in either, but I'm more interested in The Dark Knight Rises than The Avengers.

In my view, the Avengers will be better as a superhero film, and the Dark Knight Rises will be better as a film as a whole.

Right. I'm actually not that familiar with the work of Joss Whedon. I've seen a few episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer which I found decently entertaining, though I'm not certain if he actually directed those episodes himself, as I mostly just know that he was the series creator. I liked the episode of The Office he directed as well.

Nolan is a director who I feel kind of ambivalent about. I've liked his films overall, especially The Dark Knight, though there's certain aspects of his stylistics that kind of grate on me.

Avengers, for previously-explained reasons.

Batman wins. The Avengers don't really do it for me. I mean, Iron Man's great, and Thor is cool, too, but they're bound to toss the rest of those dumbasses in there, too. I don't want to see them try and invent a scenario that leads to Thor saying, "Thanks, Hawkeye. My literal godly powers didn't help me at all in that predicament---I'm just glad I had you and your Archery merit badge skills backing my play." Ish da.

Come right to it, though, I'd personally be okay with both of them sitting on the back burner for a while, if it led to that 'The Goon' movie getting finished/started in earnest/whatever, or maybe someone making a 'Punisher' movie that doesn't stink on ice. Maybe I'll wish for the moon while I'm about it...

^I'm dressing as Hawkeye for the midnight showing. Going with a friend who's dressing as Black Widow. It has been heavily implied that Hawkeye gets to tap dat.

The episodes that Joss directs tend to be the best episodes in his series, especially Buffy. I'd look them up if you could.

Batman wins. Out of the Avengers. I only really like Ironman. Wish Spiderman was in it instead of a one of the other members. But hey, guess spidy is busy with his own film.

Out of the two it'd be the Batman one, but I'm not really excited about either.

Definitely the Avengers. I love Samuel L Jackson and Robert Downy Junior, and was surprised that Thor was a great flick, but most importantly I don't personally have a lot of faith in Christian Bale or Nolan. Batman Begins was only passable, and if the new film lacks a Ledger-par villain, you lose that interesting social dynamic that made the second one so damn good.

^^It was largely a question of practicality. You can't sit down as Iron Man (unless you have the real Iron Man suit), a Cap costume is expensive (even from scratch), Bruce Banner is conversely too cheap (you just wear any old thing), & I'm not pretty enough to be Thor (nor black enough to be Fury). That leaves Hulk (paint myself green, lame), Tony Stark (goatee & tux, cool), or Hawkeye (thematic connection with my companion for the evening, cool).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
