'The Pirates!'

So, like, I've just this minute learned they're adapting Gideon Defoe's hilarious 'The Pirates!' book series into a claymation film (by whoever did Wallace and Gromit and 'Chicken Run', no less). Trailer here---it looks pretty not bad. I guess we just see how it turns out. Also, I recommend the books as well---good old silly fun, they are. I was going to say they might be hard-to-find or out-of-print or some such three-word hyphenation, only I wouldn't doubt but the movie's release will likely bring them back into publication. Hup!

I saw the trailer for this at the movies last month. It looks like it could be pretty great.

Saw this a couple nights ago. It was pretty great, just what I'd expect from Aardman.

Ooh, it's out?

Sweetness. The internet tells me that it's showing in the theater by my new house I'm moving home to after this weekend when I get out of school. Will see.

Picked up the divid and watched it last night. You know, I really liked it. It skewed a little younger than the books (less racy, gory and weird in general), but that sort of thing's kind of inevitable given who made it. They really nailed the visuals, and the voice-work was phenomenal (whoever thought to cast Brian Blessed as the Pirate King is a champion).

You should all totally read the books, incidentally. My earlier post proved eerily prescient---the two stories that were sort of remixed to make the film have been rereleased in a single volume. Cool beans.
