I saw it, it owns, better the The Dark Knight.

The ending owns. I sort of saw it coming (mainly because I saw Memento and The Prestige and this was taking a similar turn), but it still surprised me because of how good it was. Plus there was tons of stuff I didn't see coming so.

also The Hallway Fight is the coolest fight scene ever, holy crap.

e: nolan owns, make more movies

Nolan may become one of my favorite directors. Batman Begins, The Prestige, Dark Knight, and this are all awesome.

Still need to see Memento.

Seeing it tomorrow. I will give you all my snotty elitist film school opinion afterward.

But seriously, this movie looks good.

I liked the film, but there are two things that REALLY bother me, which tend to bother me in all of Christopher Nolan's films:

1. The score is almost constant. There are very few moments of a silent background. The score adds needless brooding into the mix. The acting, plot, and other directorial decisions are good enough that I can get the emotion Nolan going for without needing a constant score to dictate how I should feel.
2. Nolan has a horrible sense of pacing. His films are always paced like it's the climax for the entire duration. This is really annoying during exposition sequences, and makes the actual climax feel less exciting in comparison. The rhythm needs to be changed up a bit. Exposition sequences shouldn't feel intense and brooding.

I enjoyed the film overall, however. The plot was handled well, and it was visually spectacular. Finally, a Hollywood film that realizes that special effects alone don't add up to visual spectacle, but good blocking and composition also are necessary. It's not quite what I hoped it would be, as Nolan continued the annoying tendencies that keep him from stepping into the realm of being a truly great director, but I do think it's my favorite film of his thus far.

I thought it was inferior to Perfect Blue.

counterpoint: THOWWWWWWMMMMMMM

(also i sort of agree with you with regards to pacing... except that i think it was a good thing with The Dark Knight. not so much here though)

anything thats gets you thinking about dreams before you go to bed will make your brain go through extra effort to remember your dreams.

e: also the chud thing lost me as soon as it said "the film makes this clear..." because the film deliberatily tries to make both sides seem valid.
