Saw it yesterday, actually liked it. A lot. Gyllenhall did a great job, IMO, and the plot was overall enjoyable to follow - supported by some amazing CG work, without ridiculous pan-around-the-actors impossible to film stuff - I firmly believed it was Gyllenhall himself in every shot.

And the platforming/action elements are all there, it's not one of those low-budget effects films that does something cool from the games once and leaves it at that (Doom 3, Max Payne?). It's constant and believably shot in a way that makes it look legit.

I thought it looked pretty good. I'm excited to see it, especially after you saying that.

Oh, my sister saw that.

I may need her to give her opinion on it.

I saw it this weekend. Pretty cool movie. The prince wasn't all emo like after the Sands of Time video game; he remained sort of charming throughout.

Also, I can't wait for the video game of the movie of the video game reboot of the video game based on a scene in a movie.

The one thing that bugged me about the trailers [I don't know if it's true for the whole movie] was that the creators seemed to think that foreign=British. EVERYONE IN THE TRAILER HAD A BRITISH ACCENT. WTF doodz x{D

Aside from that, haven't seen so can't judge. Plan to see, though.

^ Having British accents where there shouldn't be any are Hollywood's version of the bull**** "Cinema of Quality" that Francois Truffaut complained about in France's film industry back in the 1950's. You see, having British accents raises artistic value, or some bull**** like that.

Had long-ranging cultural effects. IE; the later line of the Egyptian Pharaohs were actually established by the Macedonians, with the spread of the Alexandrian Empire. And it's actually been a long-held stereotype that Persian royalty had vaguely western accents, although I have no knowledge of its origin.

What you really have to do in this instance is consider how naive you've been, though. Nobody knows what the Persian royals' accent sounds like anymore, and the cast and staff were by majority British. Besides, I'm guessing you don't speak Middle Persian. I doubt you're going to expect the Brit staff to change their accents, just because you're projecting your bias for American default?

^ I don't think it would bother me as much if this were the ONLY film I've seen this happen in. I mean, I saw a movie that was set in France in which the characters had English accents. I just sometimes really get the feeling that some directors feel the need to establish that a place is foreign by giving them British accents. *shrug*

And I'm saying that a good majority of those actors are British, and there's no defacto Middle Persian accent to draw from to appropriately establish the characters. Besides, nobody ever complains when Spider-man lacks a Queens accent.

My theory on that is that British English is more "pure" than American English. If you're gonna have a foreign character speak in English when it's understood to be a foreign language, or they're just speaking English period, British accents just sound better.

That's my take on it. In the long run it doesn't make much sense, but oh well.

It's seriously one of those things that gets to me. OH NO NOT A BRITISH ACCENT. Do you see pretty much any film have the appropriate accent? How to Train Your Dragon? VIKINGS, people. Do you see those kids with any kind of Norse accent? How about the Scottish viking dad guy? Uh huh.

Never get it why people jump on the Brit's accent. I think it's something to do with you all being from the US. It's somehow hardwired into your heads that the British accent is ridiculously different [strike]and they totally weren't the people who were actively settling most of the known world way back when.[/strike]

Nevermind completely ignoring the fact that they shouldn't have spoken modern English at all. Talk about picking your peeves.

And I'm totally serious. If they had used the completely standard "big city USA" accent, none of you would have mentioned it. Oh ho, the USA wasn't exactly around back then, but they should have had your everyday Hollywood accent, totally more acceptable and totally not jarring for Persia.
