Some of you guys might know about this already, as I hear it got some exposure at this summer's Comic-Con, but I just heard about this, so I'm pretty excited.

In case you didn't know, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the debut of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in comic books. The folks behind the Turtles franchise have been doing their best to honor the occasion with contests, events, new video games, and re-releases of classic action figures. The thing I'm really psyched about, however, is that they're apparently putting the finishing touches on a direct-to-DVD animated movie called Turtles Forever. This movie is going to be a crossover in which the Turtles from the 1980s cartoon series meet the Turtles from the modern series that's been airing since 2003! And of course both versions of other characters like Splinter, Shredder, and April will be there too (along with characters exclusive to either series, like Karai from the modern series, and Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady from the classic series)! Also slated to appear are animated versions of Tokka and Razar from TMNT 2. And it's also been confirmed that the Turtles from the original black-and-white comic books will be showing up, although I can't think how that's actually going to work (is it gonna be like Paper Mario or something?).

I... BUT NONE OF THE NEW STUFF IS GOOD. D:

I hope they take advantage of the differences between the classic and modern versions of the characters to allow for some cool exchanges of dialog. For example, the 2003 Michelangelo could marvel at how obsessed his 1980s incarnation is with pizza, and the 1980s Raphael could wonder why his 2003 incarnation is such an angry, brooding guy. To say nothing of the difference between the two Splinters (the 2003 version being Homato Yoshi's pet rat, and the 1980s version being Yoshi himself).

And maybe they could address how all of the modern turtles have no sense of fun or humor, and are too busy trying to look cool to have a good time. For me, practically everything that made them cool and fun has been removed.

So basically none of you have ever read any of the source material.

The original Splinter was Yoshi's pet rat and the stories were grim with plenty of gratuitous violence (on the 80's lots of the 80's).

You can read 'em for free on their web site, but I warn ya, the 80s were not a very kind time for artists.

I hope they realease a collectors eddition or something in scandinavia, i realy want to get my hand on those comics, they was awesome

It's surprising to see how many people have no idea that the 1987 cartoon series was "inspired" by a comic series (inspired being a loose term, since aside from the appearance and names of the turtles, there wasn't much in common).
The first movie and the 2003 TV series were much better adaptations, by actually caring about the source material.

I'm definitely looking forward to this movie.

Of course I have. It was sadly not the cause of the tremendous popularity of the original TV series. Hell, I'd take that any day over the crappy new tv series, and especially that creepy live-action show.

Funny story.

My elementary school gym teacher played a stunt double for Donatello in the 1990 movie, I think. He was a martial artist. He was awesome.

They should have given him a part in this movie.

Also, the whole thing of the newer shows being good or bad is entirely opinion based.

I quite enjoy the newer ones myself (or at least I did when I last watched.) and I think that its a good way of spreading the franchise to today's young generation.


Perhaps when this generation gets older they will decide to go back by using the rescources they have (such as internet) to view the original stuff.)

Most kids nowadays don't go for the stuff like the first TMNT (or any "regular cartoon" for that matter), they want it to be more edgy and action filled the other stuff bores them.
Its just the changes that occur over time. :/
