I've seen Perfect Blue and Paprika so far, and have copies of Millennium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers waiting for my consumption. I cannot wait to acquire Paranoia Agent. Why?

Clearly this man is a genius. He is pushing further the boundaries of animation to levels of creativity that have been dying to be explored for years.

Satoshi Kon friggin' rules, man. 'Perfect Blue' is one of the best psychological thrillers I've ever seen--I don't say that lightly.

Seriously, Perfect Blue was on some David Lynch meets Alfred Hitchcock tip.

Millenium Actress is great. I've talked to someone who considers it their favorite movie period, animated or not. I haven't seen any of the others though.

Have you guys seen Makoto Shinkai's stuff? He did Voices of a distant Star, The Place promised in our early days and 5cm per second.

Tokyo Godfathers is one of my personal favorite movies. Really good director.

Agreed. That guy has some freaky stuff, just the way I like it.

He has several hidden messages he sends to the japanese public. Paranoia Agent, for example, shows the struggles of busy japanese worklife, the struggle to be on top, and basically how overworking themselves and obsession had led them to their downfall. Of course the only thriller I've watched from him is Paranoia Agent because it was the only decent anime on adult swim at the time.

Millennium Actress = My new favorite animated film.

I started watching Paprika once, and got about 20 minutes in. But, it was late and I fell asleep. I've heard a lot of things about it being strange. I didn't find it all that odd for the time I watched it. Does it get better later on or something?

^ Yes. Oh god, yes. Once everything gets really messed up, there's this absurd humor that only occurs in dreams.

I don't want any mental scars like End of Evangelion gave me.

Haha, I'm actually about to watch the entire Evangelion series after I finish Trigun.

You might like it, you might hate it. It seems to be pretty polarizing. I will say that the movie for it is basically an alternate ending to the series.

From what I've read about it, I think I'll like it.

I've seen Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika and I love both. Paprika seems to push what little sanity he seemed to have. It was pure epicness. Nuff said.

Paranoia Agent. Five Episodes in. Amazingtacular.
