Saw V

It's Halloween-ish time, meaning it's time for Twisted Pictures to crank out another Saw! Hoorah, milk that utter dry!
I know, I know. After IV, not many people have any faith in this series. In fact, a lot of people hate the entire series. Quite frankly, I only watch these films for the traps/death scenes, which are some of the most brilliant on film. I love how much attention to detail is payed, how clever the machinery itself is... It's incredible.
As to what the plot twist will be this time, who knows. I'm not so excited about the plot, because Saw isn't Saw without ol' Jiggy. The plot will probably be as thin as last time, showing bits and pieces of random information every time they think it relevant. Either way, there are 7 confirmed traps, and from the photos released of them, they're gonna be nasty.
As another plus, this will probably be my first time seeing a Saw film in-theater, so at least I have that to look forward to.
Thoughts (in other words val what do you think since youre like the only other saw fan here)?

I thought it was around III when it started blowing, not IV.
Anywho, I plan on seeing the movie when it comes out, if at least for the new traps. From what I've seen it should be better than the last two, but I'm not optimistic it'll actually be good.
In other words, I'm a horror movie buff, so I'm used to crappy films by now.

...I actually liked Saw 4.
I'll probably see this movie too, when it's released.

^I expected such cute comments as that, and it's mainly because you're a movie hipster. Since I'm the same way with music, I know that felt good deep inside. So kudos.

The first one was good, but the second one was so horrible I haven't bothered watching anything since then.

I'll probably one day see the first film, but I've pretty much avoided the Saw films (mostly since I'm not a fan of gratuitous violence and gore).

^^A lot of people seem to enjoy the 2nd one, but it was my least favorite. Mainly because it lacked any interesting traps (aside from the Venus Headtrap)

It's all torture porn to me. There's no real horror or terror being generated, just people in preposterous situations being physically mangled. As long as it's not grouped in with horror movies, I have no objection to it. I don't particularly care for it, but if you want to watch go ahead.

^ I've heard people (usually those tarty, adolescent girls that you always see hanging out in groups of three or four) comment how scary the films are, and it gets me to realize who exactly the film would appeal to as a horror movie.
I wouldn't group Saw together with other horror movies (as the genre of "horror" usually implies there is something scary to be had in the film, and for the most part none is to be found in the Saw series), but I wouldn't go as far as to label it "torture porn". Instead, when talking about it to people I classify it in my own sub-caste of horror films called "gorror", since these are the kind of films that try to be scary, but at most through the ridiculous amounts of mutilation and death that Saw is famous for.

The Saw films may not be scary in a "ooga booga" sense, but I believe it's more a psychological horror that's designed to make you feel disturbed (but it's completely silly NOT to call it horror)

I'm not a movie hipster, I'm a "Condescending Film Jerk." My rank even says so.

Does this make me a "Hateful Music Prick"?
^^I agree with Sean, for the most part. Saw is a psychological 'horror', or at least the first one was. The rest are mainly about the traps/gore (as Val said, "Gorror"), and don't really follow as much of a plot-based formula. After 1 (and forgetting 2 completely), the traps became better, but the plot thinned (aside from the usual OMG PLOT TWIST). I feel that if Saw V can redeem itself with its plot, I'll once again have a reason to watch it aside from the nifty trap ideas.

Anything after the first one was pretty bad.
I think Banjo-Kazooie could take him.
