G.I. Joe Film

#1

The first image from the upcoming G.I. Joe film has been released featuring Ray Park (aka Darth Maul) as Snake Eyes:

I think that image alone shows that the film has promise.

Though I'm a bit confused by the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander (I guess his voice will be digitally manipulated/over-dubbed by another actor). I also wonder if they are going with the silver visor version or the hooded version (I prefer the latter).

However, I do believe that Christopher Eccleston is a good choice for Destro.

I got to say, Storm Shadow was always my favourite. I remember when he destroyed a tank with kung fu. Oh man. And the action figure looked so cool, so, so cool and yet so completely untactical.

Arnold Vosloo as Zartan? What an interesting choice.

I note that Roadblock isn't listed. He'd better be in there, damn it.

I remember seeing this in ToyFare like five years ago, but hadn't heard anything since and figured it was a lost cause.

Wait a tick- Ripcord isn't black.

Some character/actor comparisons, courtesy The G.I.Joe Movie Fanblog

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is Heavy Duty

Though I'm not familiar with some of the actors, I'm very happy with most of these. Duke however... :sweatdrop:

One good thing that might happen--maybe Rhino re-releases the 'GI Joe' DVD sets that were out for a week or two back in '03. Damn it. I can't find those (or the 'Transformers' sets) anywhere. The joint is lousy with friggin' 'TMNT' and 'Teen Titans' and every other damn thing, but I've got to resort to eBay if I want something good. It's a pain.

Here's what Wikipedia has to say:
Channing Tatum as First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser / Duke, the lead soldier. Lorenzo di Bonaventura wanted to cast Mark Wahlberg in the role. Tatum had played a soldier in Stop-Loss, a sensitively handled war film, and originally wanted no part in G.I. Joe, which he felt glorified war. Once he read the script though, he realized the franchise was a fantasy akin to X-Men, Mission: Impossible and Star Wars rather than a war film.
and
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander, Destro's shadowy, masked boss. Levitt signed on because he was given pictures of Cobra Commander and decided it would be fun to play a larger than life villain. Levitt is a friend of Tatum and they co-starred in Stop-Loss. His casting provided extra incentive for Tatum to join the film. USA Today reported Levitt is playing "multiple roles".

So they gave him the part because he "thought it would be fun to play"? That shouldn't be how casting works...

They should have gotten the guy that played Shredder in the original TMNT to be Cobra. I don't really think of the kid from 3rd Rock as a leader of a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.

It'll be interesting to see if they stick with the traditional GI Joe lasers or opt for real bullets and gunfire.

According to wiki, GI Joe now stands for "Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity" and is based in Europe. >_< Sacreligious, I say, GI Joe is American, and should always be American.

Wiki also says Dennis Quaid has signed on for two sequels already. Maybe we'll get to see Slaughter or the Drednoks in one of the sequels.

*creams again thinking about epic Snake Eyes-Storm Shadow showdown*

Bah. What was so wrong with having GI Joe be all red-blooded Americans and Cobra being sinister European types? It makes it easier to tell who the bad guys are--just shoot the people who talk funny. That's what I do.

you know, there's a reason that in the song and the tagline says "a real AMERICAN hero" hmm, I wonder, doesn't that mean that they're supposed to be, oh I don't know, AMERICAN!?!?!

seriously why would they be based in europe? but then again we are talking about wikipedia here.
beware the power of Bahamut\'s eldest son.
