^ You can't just pass it off as mere Americanization, it's them pushing diversity. You don't have to have a problem with that but at least don't say all they did was Americanize it because that's just inaccurate.

what if keith stanfield was the best choice for the role? because he is a very good actor who's been in a good deal of critically acclaimed movies as both major and minor roles

That wasn't their own reasoning. They stated it was diversity. He may have been the best black actor they could match as L but still got the role for being black. They're placing the importance of their agenda over making a good movie.

I don't know why you guys can't just acknowledge that. It isn't just Americanization or finding the best actor and we know that because they said it. It isn't a conspiracy theory, it's fact. Also, it doesn't mean you guys can't be okay with the any of the changes.

I'm just not thrilled for Light Turner and black L. I'm sure Ryuk is gonna be butchered, probably the Death Note's rules, and lots of story elements. The only hope this has now is being a good movie as its own thing but being a bad Death Note film, like Resident Evil.

But what the hell is wrong with diversity? What's wrong with pulling out a random black guy card?

In trying to make a big deal about it there shouldn't be a big deal about it.

No. Light and L should be played by Anthony Hopkins.

Nothing is wrong with diversity unless it's shoehorned in like this.

No more diverse than casting any other american as Light.

They could choose to have a Japanese actor play Light if they want to forgo the character's appearance, but that wouldn't be good. I don't think they chose Light's actor for appearance purposes anyway though, that was a decision made as part of the horrendous Americanization process.
