^Wow, really? I don't see the problem. Rather have the kids watch that than some moronic garbage like 'Teen Titans Go'. I'd be able to watch TV with them without wanting to pull my eyes out my dang sockets.
Well, I think you pretty much pointed out at least one of the problems yourself, actually.
You know, not to go bumping this pointlessly or anything, but the thing that really gets me about that UK SU censorship I posted...I mean, they censored the part with Rose and Pearl dancing together, and completely ignored the elephant in the room--------like, quite clearly Rose is singing about her sexual relationship with Greg. It's implicit, but in no way subtle. The lyrics of her verse; the lustful looks she gives Greg, all toying with the mic cord and all; the special emphasis placed on her lips (minor sexualisation---I mean, they could never get away with lingering on shots of her bust); and, well, it doesn't take a scumbag like me to infer a second meaning in the way Rose throws her head back, eyes closed, for that long 'oh-whoa-oh-oh' at the end of the verse. Seeing two ladies dance together seems pretty tame by comparison.

Yeah, I mean an entire generation grew up liking Ed Edd & Eddy. What's up with that. Poor kids.
I never get why anyone liked that show, now that you mention it. It's so bad.

I recognised the subtle sexual implications because I'm an adult. Kids don't pick up on subtleties and subtext real easily-----lacking an adult's experience and perspective, they take the facade for reality and go with it. One assumes any child watching that scene would just think 'aww, look, they're in love' or something. They wouldn't notice the sexual undertones, anymore than they'd read the unpleasant subtext of the scene (namely, that Greg takes the relationship much more seriously than Rose does at that point).
Like, that's one of the earmarks of quality family entertainment----------it can amuse children and also be intellectually stimulating to adults. I don't spend hours thinking about Star Wars at work because it has rocket ships and space guns and all---------I think about the underlying morality and characters and all. (Certainly don't spend any time thinking about 'Teen Titans Go', tell you that much for free.)

"It's implicit, but in no way subtle" is pretty much how I'd sum it up. Even as a kid I think I'd get the gist of it, so I'm probably not alone. I'm not condemning the show, I just don't think it's ideal for kids based on what I can tell, and I acknowledge that there's worse out there (and some of what I watched is probably included in that, like Ren & Stimpy). It ain't like they're gonna become sexual deviants based on either version of that earlier scene alone, but I hear it's a rather adult oriented cartoon, though I haven't watched the show myself. I sort of have a bias against animation which isn't anime or specifically geared toward adults like South Park. Shallow minded, I know.

Far as I'm concerned, if a kid is capable of reading sexual subtext in a scene, they're generally going to be at the right age to be starting to think about sex anyway. Suppose it's down to personal interpretation. I'll concede I probably get a hell of a lot more out of SU than a kid would, in much the same way I get more out of Star Wars and 'Ghostbusters' now than I did as a kid.

^^Oh, and...incidentally. You're talkin out both sides your mouth, here, a little, man. Got a bias against SU because it isn't for adults, but don't think it should be on the cartoon channel because it isn't for kids. Strange.
Allow me to recommend SU to you as a friend. You know I'm not some dumdum here. Heck, we got some tastes in common (clearly we both like Star Wars in some instances, and anime in some instances, and we both think I'm incredibly smart and funny)------like who better to get cartoon recommendations from, homey. Remember when I recommended 'Avatar TLA' to you that one time, and either you never watched it or it wound up bein one of your faves? Yeah.

Things aren't black & white. Movies don't just consist of Saw and Human Centipede on one side with Barney's Great Adventure and The Tigger Movie on the other, do they? So naturally there's some grey with television as well. SU seems like it might be a smidge much for tykes but not enough for adults. Could easily be wrong, especially on the last one since everyone here seems to like it. You guys like everything, though, and I'm a picky bitch so who knows.
Yeah, I'm pretty bad at even watching stuff I already like (except Dragon Ball). I'm behind on everything from current stuff like TWD to older things like Futurama, so I didn't yet try Avatar, though I almost tried one of the games. Baby steps. I'll add SU to the infinite backlog.

...I like you. You're great, man. I love what you bring to this goony place. Please, pretty please/ dont go changing your biz.
Even when I disagree with you, I like you. I'm cool with your biz, man. Like, I want you to experience this great cartoon. I'd be a bad friend if I didn't recommend things I like to people I like.

Well, I just finished the first episode. At least I think it was the first episode but didn't seem like it. Anyway, I don't think it's for me. I agree with AI regarding the visuals. The ice cream cat looked delicious and I liked the background art but that's pretty much the best I can say about that.
Story was all over the place and didn't catch my interest, characters were flat at best...Maybe it gets better?
It gets better. When it first came out I wasn't very impressed, but right now I think it's probably the best animated show currently airing on a children's network.
That's good, but the designs are still awful?

^Eww. 'Ducktales' is alright (despite the presence of that grating little f*ckface Webbigail), and I can maybe see puttin the likes of 'Gummi Bears', 'Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers' and 'Darkwing Duck' back on the air. Rest of the Disney Afternoon can go drink mare's piss for all I care.
