George Lucas knows that Star Wars movies pay for themselves, practically. Even if everyone screams about how much they suck, the hype alone sells.

I'm going to go cry, cut myself, then sell my child hood dreams and memories as alternative fuel or snake oil.

Oh that's easy! Cry, cut someone else and sell their dreams and childhood memories as alternative fuels.

That might be, but I didn't pay to see the last one, considering how bad the two before it were.

So, like, I know this isn't strictly relevant, but is anyone else sick to death of Jedi? Because I am. SW as a franchise used to be really wide open and variegated, and then the prequels came along, and now it seems like everything is just set-up for moronic over-choreographed lightsaber fights.

Episode III was better, but still flawed. Go ahead and see it on TV or DVD if you have a chance.

Yeah, the lightsaber battles in the prequels were well-choreographed, shot, and edited... but they lack emotional content.

Bruce Lee didn't like the fight sequences, either:

I always thought the lightsaber fights in the prequels looked really artificial and rehearsed. Good, compelling fight choreography should be at least as much about who the characters are as about what they're doing---otherwise the fight is all flash and no substance.

basically there was a post about how cool the post-original trilogy/thrawn books are and how cool it is that luke basically built up the new jedi order but then i realized how hard it was to explain, especially the newer stuff because it's so goddamn interlaced at this point

How many times can you rerelease those old movies? There's a limit to how much 'new' can be squeezed out of them, ya know...

Yeah he's been off and on on those for a while.
I remember reading a chat interview where he said he planned on it.
That was 2005 or 6 I think.

EDIT: ^I see supershadow mentioned and I'm pretty sure that they were involved with the interview chat thing.

To me, that's a bit like saying the new garbage doesn't smell as bad as last week's.
