Then again, a lot of Disney "princesses" aren't technically princesses.
Exactly...I totally looked this up on WikiP cause I don't actually KNOW what they consider a "Disney Princess" but only Jasmine, Snow White (The hunter says "The little princess"), and Aurora were really princesses. For the sake of X-3 I'm not including the little mermaid. :P
Everyone else is either a princess consort or not a princess at all. (Although they supposedly count Pochahontas as a princess and I don't know if that counts...American Indians didn't HAVE old-world style royalty.)

By "consorts", I take it you mean the ones who married into royalty, like Cinderella and Belle. Trust me, little girls don't know the difference.Sim Kid wrote:Exactly...I totally looked this up on WikiP cause I don't actually KNOW what they consider a "Disney Princess" but only Jasmine, Snow White (The hunter says "The little princess"), and Aurora were really princesses. Not old-world style, but the concept of Native American princesses is a fairly common one.they supposedly count Pochahontas as a princess and I don't know if that counts...American Indians didn't HAVE old-world style royalty.)

Exactly..and yes I know little girls wouldn't know the difference...heck I doubt a lotta people who didn't sit down and do some reading about nobility would even know what a consort is and think Marie, Princess of Liechtenstein just has that as a title.Metal Mario wrote:By "consorts", I take it you mean the ones who married into royalty, like Cinderella and Belle. Let's see.
Snow White, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine and Kida were all princesses. Cinderella and Belle all married princes, and therefore became princesses.
Pocahontas was the daughter of a chief, which is comparable to being a princess. (Fun fact: when the historic Pocahontas was taken to Europe, she was advertised as being a sort of "Native American princess".) Mulan was a peasant girl who never married a prince (her love interest was an army captain). Esmeralda, Megara, and other girls occasionally thrown in there don't even come close.
So, Tiana will probably end up in the same place as Cinderella and Belle. Take it from me... I know my Disney animated features.

That was Elynwy or whoever. (I don't know how to spell her name) Considering the movie is considered a black sheep and that the copyright for her character may be held by someone else, I highly doubt she'd count as a Disney Princess. (Although she WAS welsh, which is what the Prydain Books' setting was based around)Metal Mario wrote:Which movie is Kida from? I don't recall a character with that name, and I've seen just about all of them several times.
Is she from The Black Cauldron? I haven't seen that one.
