You know, I love Christian Bale as Batman. I think he's one of the most talented actors out there.

But every time I see him, I can't stop thinking of Newsies. No matter how many times I watch Batman Begins, I still get "Seize the Day" in my head during scenes when he's out of the Batsuit.

But yeah. Great movie. Favorite of the year so far. And with Wall-E and Iron Man this year, that's saying something.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

Spoiler.
A catwoman reference? Where? Also I agree, Penguin shouldn't be the next villain. Joker will return theres no doubt about that.

Spoiler.
They will have a hell of a time replacing Heath. I would suspect that would be the biggest hurdle if they wanted to reuse Joker.

The Catwoman reference was explained by someone else already- when Batman got his improved suit and asked if it would work against dog attacks, there was mention of "good against cats".
Penguin might be used, but I'd lean more towards likelihood of the Riddler.

Spoiler.
I have a feeling the most they'll do with Joker is show him with his back to the camera sitting in Arkham Asylum holding cell and laughing. No face, no further plot. If they did, they'd ruin a good thing. People will respect them a lot more if they don't touch on Joker anymore.

Or Jack N. could return as Joker, since he was an awesome Joker.

Spoiler.
I know I'll be disappointed if they try and find a replacement. As a direct sequel, another actor playing Joker would just... sit wrong. I agree they could have him in a cell or something. Then again, they did kill Two Face already, so who knows what they will do- he could've been a great next movie villian, with a second one coming in a little further in the movie.
Kind of like Spiderman 3:
Spoiler.
That they went and killed Venom so quickly, it was just weird. Then again, they ruined Eddy Brock's character by making him 1. the actor they did (not big/buff enough), and 2. making him hate Spiderman because of some ****ty love thing, instead of being a criminal Spidey locked up.
btw,
Spoiler.
I'd like to see Poison Ivy as the next baddie.

Spoiler.
I'd want the Riddler and Joker to team up or something. Two insane criminals planning to kill Batman... And I wouldn't mind Scarecrow escaping prison for revenge on Batman.

Val's Rating: 3 out of 4 stars

I just got home from the movies not one hour ago, and here's my verdict:
Spoiler.
An excellent movie. Well-paced, nice storyline. Ledger definitely stole the show. His role as Joker was phenomenal. He certainly deserves an award for his performance, it was fantastic.

DK was the kind of movie that started off by shaking you a bit, then placing you into a false sense of security, then punching you in the face, and finally letting you know the trouble's come to an end... and then punching you in the face again. Repeat two or three times.

A few things I'd complain about was some of the characterization in the film. Aside from Ledger's fantastic performance, certain other characters seemed to lag behind. Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman didn't quite do it for me. He certainly gets the "Playboy Millioniare Bruce" part down, but as the Dark Knight he just isn't convincing. This got me in the last movie, too. As for Harvey Dent/Two-Face, I was a bit disappointed with the development of his character. Dent himself was really a magnificent character, but as the villain Two-Face, he was neither convincing nor sympathetic to me. His short reign as Two-Face may have affected this somewhat.

All in all, it's a very good movie, definitely one to see this summer. If you've got a day off, go find a friend, and take them to see Dark Knight. You won't regret it. And that's my professional review.

Didn't Frank Zappa say something relevant about this?

Then again, he named his kid Moon Unit. Possibly not the best advice source.

I'll admit, Heath Ledger stole the show with his off-beat humor and the way he did his lines was superb.

I also noticed that Batman has a very very deep and scratchy voice, like he's trying very hard to keep it that way. I don't know. I'm no movie connisour (sp?)

Every time I see Bale dressed up as Bruce Wayne, all I can think of is Patrick Bateman. I half expect him to put on a raincoat and kill yuppie scum.

Um, secret identity

I thought the movie was freakin' fantastic.
Spoiler.
My dad and I say the exact same thing, but with very different tones: "There was so much going on!!" I loved it, he didn't like it. I loved the false climax, too...I thought the movie was over and then there was another hour left. Also, I want to learn that pencil trick.
Spoiler.
As for the next villain, I would like the Penguin or Ivy. I agree, they should not try to replace Ledger. He was too damn good. He needs an Oscar, seriously.

I'm now hearing people say this is better than the Godfather.

Perhaps I should see the movie first, but my misanthropy is rising.

I'm sure it's an excellent movie, and I do want to see it, but the facts are:

1. It's way too new to be compared to The Godfather
2. It's a summer blockbuster.
3. What's the likeliness that we'll still be talking about it 35 years from now?

Also, I'd say it's still too early in the year to be calling Oscar nominations.
