Yeah I 100% agree with this. I think the show should have ended when Vegeta blew himself up and 'killed' Buu. But yeah since Buu came back as well as everyone else I lost interest. Lol that's when spirit bombs of doom become very popular.Luigi007 wants a new PDN wrote: At least DBZ was good up to about, oh, the end of the Cell Saga. I hate DBZ. That said, I totally agree with you--knocking the mainstream just for being mainstream is elitist and snobbish.I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote:Bleach, like DBZ, is near perfection. Why does something need to be an obscure and unheard of to be good? Geez.

I liked DBZ up untill the Buu Saga. goku I really can't stand him his son on the other hand was my favorate character. Granted he was annoying as hell at first but he was four. goku just had a head full of rocks. I've only seen a few episodes of bleach one being Ichigo gaining his powers, the other being the end of his fight with Zackari Kamphichi. Its an okay show from what i've seen but I haven't seen enough to say where I hate it or not, so i took the third poll option.

Bleach is just a ****ing Gap commercial with monsters and explosions. Oh, and more substantially, is just every other ****ing mainstream anime with different names for its characters and the gimmick of ghosts over martial arts.

1. So they're well dressed, big deal.Erdawn Il Deus wrote:Bleach is just a ****ing Gap commercial with monsters and explosions. Oh, and more substantially, is just every other ****ing mainstream anime with different names for its characters and the gimmick of ghosts over martial arts.
2. Monsters and explosion = awesome.
3. It is similar to other mainstream anime like DBZ but it's definitely a series of it's own at least in style if not story. And that has to count for something, I am just glad it's not just anoher dry anime like, well, I won't name names but ones I am sure you probably just love to death. Bleach is great, not perfect by any means, but certainly worth while. Also worth mentioning, the games are great for anime based fighters.

Let me tell you, dude. I'm sure you know who Erdawn is, but it's still fair that that I warn you: you don't jostle him with a pointed stick such as those petty words right there. The results, though hilarious to me, will be disastrous towards your face.I won't name names but ones I am sure you probably just love to death
My only arguments are these:
Stop turning everything into a debate, kiddo.
And also, I can name several anime miles ahead of Bleach. Basilisk, for example.

Anyway, I remember being interested in the manga until it turned into Dragonball/Naruto/Every other shonen anime when they went up to heaven and started fighting ridiculous, generically anime-ish "unique" supervillains.
EDIT - Actually i'm going to tack this right on. The problem with long-running anime series is that they are crippled by their own lenght. I have no problem with anything running a few seasons or a few story arcs but eventually your characters have grown to the point where they will remain static - you can come back and throw any problem you want to pull out your ass at them in order to present new 'drama' but all it does is ring more obnoxiously. Take Naruto as an example. There are so many 'enlightenments' (I refer to these moments when a character realises, usually (or always, when it comes to shonen-anime) in the heat of battle something monumentous - which, in the case of shonen-anime, is usually (or always) something trite like 'I can depend on my friends lolz') throughout the series watching them fight any new supervillain is monotonous and tiring. Sure, laud its action-sequences (despite what is actually top-notch animation during fight sequences for the most part, the anime series fails miserably at conveying any realism in terms of time/action in order to present us with 'internal monologue' which would be understood in little over a second when reading the manga but is soliloquised word-for-word and drawn out Dragonball-style by dumb-**** script directors), but action sequences become stupider and stupider when you realise that creators no longer have anything to drive them other than interesting looking villains. I actually applaud Ninja Scroll, what is essentially a dumb and simplistic orgy of violence and sex, because that is all it is, all it is meant to be, and ends (as films are wont to do) before it becomes embarassing. The problem with these long-running animes is that they become what Ninja Scroll is without the immediate production value (because they are drawn out) or the charm (because it was short-lived). Take Dragonball for example. You've got to love DB for what it is - or was. When Goku was a kid, and when he grew older. DBZ was originally supposed to end with the Frieza saga, and should have. I pretty much consider everything after it crap - GT moreso, since Toriyama had nothing to do with the series outside allowing TOEI to butcher it for green. The most character development that could have been squeezed out of the ****ing series ended with Vegita's 'first' death. Another detriment to the series would be the absolute meaninglessness of 'sacrifice' since Heaven and the afterlife is essentially a revolving door shopping mall with absolutely no repercussions or emotional drama to go with it outside seeing Chichi cry her ****ing eyes out in what usually ends up being a half-assed attempt towards Toriyama's idea of 'humour'. Don't even get me started on the inherent sexism either - females being essentially traditionalist-inepts and males being absolutely subjugated by their wives and - GRAH.
Alright. NOW, I am rambling. DBZ is a kid's show. Nothing more. Violence does not a mature-rating deserve without earning it first. People have this embarassing idea that, because our Western young are so sheltered from sex, violence, and reality, that because anime has these - the Japanese being more open to those themes - anime is better than Western cartoons, when the 1990 Batman Animated series boldly dabbled in much more mature themes of darkness and insanity, while still retaining a 'G' rating, than most of the shrieking stupid and generically psychotic villains in mainstream anime series ever have touched upon. Case in point - watch Saving Private Ryan, watch the medic shot through his torso while his buddies try desperately to save him, and watch him as the understanding of his imminent death washes over him when he realises he's shot through the liver. That is death. Violence. Probably one of the most gruesome in cinematic history, worst than any of the slasher films and splatter-cinema features, because it is observed from a mature, adult perspective. Contrast that to Yamcha being blown up by a Saibaman or Vegita exploding himself after COMING BACK FROM T3H DEAD or Goku sacrificing hem-self agin to save t3h world. Ridiculous.
Anyways, I'm sick of typing. I realise the pendulum of what I intended to say swung WAAAY back and forth on this one. I can't even remember how I started out. Sorry about the rambling, folks.
Uh, original point was that long-running series explode the formula of EXPOSITION - PROBLEM - CLIMAX - DENOUEMENT which we are taught in friggin elementary english class and is the factor for holding interest in any story. This isn't limited to anime, either, folks, so don't think I'm prejudiced. This **** happened to Scrubs for crying out loud, for differnet reasons.

The winner? Not Hanks. =P
Finally: Tom Hanks is an untalented and stale actor IMO but Saving Private Ryan was a good movie ddspite that.
...Isn't this a textbook case of hypocrisy? Besides, he insulted (not just gave his opinion on) one of my favorite shows...Also, DBZ is for everyone or is that an impossible task in your opinion?M. Hercule Poirot wrote:Stop turning everything into a debate, kiddo.

I don't mean the Goku topic, I mean this one. I just said I loved this show and Erdawn trashed it. Some things are debates, some are not. Some evolve into debates thanks to comments made by people. I am perty dern innocent in this here topic. I mean, I don't THINK I was hostile anyway...Also, milk does curdle so that statement does make sense to some degree. I guess you want me to rot. =PM. Hercule Poirot wrote:If you're referring to me arguing with you in a topic you made just for the purpose of arguing, I hereby declare you a glass of milk and hope you curdle.
See, that last sentence made about as much sense as your entire argument.
Dry anime? Like Gundam. Popular, overly intricate and frankly annoying and dry...

^There was only one Gundam worth anything anyway.
Also yeah, I am gleefully thrashing DBZ and am the antagonist of this debate. You haven't done anything. *LAUGHS MADLY*
