Up to 11/30:

Wordplay (Creadon, 2006), 1-2-14 – 10/10
Annie Hall (Allen, 1977), 1-13-14 – 586/10
Runaway Train (Konchalovsky, 1985), 1-23-14 – 6/10
Paul (Mottola, 2011), 1-24-14 – 6.5/10
Risky Business (Brickman, 1983), 2-15-14 – 8.5/10
The Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean, 1957), 2-22-14 – 10/10
Admission (Weitz, 2013), 2-24-14 – 5/10
The LEGO Movie (Lord and Miller, 2014), 3-2-14 – 11.5/10
Hitchcock (Gervaski, 2012), 3-4-14 – 7.5/10
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Reiner, 1982), 3-16-14 – 8.5/10
Moonrise Kingdom (Anderson, 2012), 3-26-14 – 9.5/10

I love the rich symbolism in this one from the visual cues to the sound cues. And it's like Romeo & Juliet with a happier ending. They do call it a comedy, so I guess it's natural that all's well that ends well (whoa, two Shakespeare references in one paragraph!). My only complaint is that it looks like much later in fall even though most of the movie is supposed to take place in late summer. Maybe that's just New England's climate, but I wouldn't know, as I don't live there.
^ I'd say the comedy special counts if it's a theatrical release. Like Eddie Murphy: Raw would count but not Jim Gaffigan: King Baby.
I wouldn't know XD I just watch them on netflix so I'm not sure of if they were a theatrical release or not :/

Hhhhhhh...

Movies 5/30---

John Dies at the End - 02/13/2014 - 6/10
Aguirre, the Wrath of God - 02/13/2014 - 9/10
The Lego Movie - 03/03/2014 - 10/10
Sita Sings the Blues - 03/04/2014 - 10/10
Frozen - 03/27/2014 - 07?/10

I don't entirely know what to think of 'Frozen'. It has so many adorable aspects. It has some nice, relatable characters. I love parts of it. But some of it feels so damn...I don't know...empty. Soulless. Like, I think about the Disney movies I rilly loved as a kid ('Robin Hood' and 'Great Mouse Detective' being my all-time faves, guy), and there's just this certain feeling there. A distinct personality. I don't feel it here. I super wish I did. I concede I didn't see the movie blind, nor entirely sober (give me a break, iss my day off, here)---maybe I needs to give it a second chance later on. We'll see. We'll see.

Revenge of the Nerds (Kanew, 1984), 3-29-14 – ?/10
To Rome with Love (Allen, 2012), 4-2-14 – 7.5/10

Simply put, this movie revisits Woody's multiple-protagonist story structure found in films such as Hannah and Her Sisters or Crimes and Misdemeanors and transfers it to Italy. I do sort of wish all four plots culminated in the end with the protagonists meeting each other, but other than that, it's a movie that gets you thinking about relationships with friends, lovers, and even strangers. I particularly liked the one plot where the guy gets famous for no reason. I think that may be a comment on either the Kardashians, social networking, or Andy Warhol's correct prophecy that, "In the future, everybody will be famous for fifteen minutes."

Hey, Val finally saw a movie!

1/30
Frozen (Apr 4) - 4/10

The visuals were very pretty (the locations were beautiful, and everything with the ice was fantastic), and some of the songs were really good. The plot was uninteresting, and most of the characters were dull and uninspired. It was an okay film, but Val probably won't watch it a second time.

[[9. i watched frozen a while ago. 7/10 ? enjoyable, not god's gift to feminism, elsa would have been a much better protag]]

THREE MORE!!!! FRIENDS AND I HAD SATOSHI KON MARATHON, WAS GREAT

10. Perfect Blue -- 9/10, so so so so good, and i really loved how everyone who watched it with me came up with different interpretations at the end and we all talked about color theory and symbolism in it for like an hour

11. Millennium Actress -- 10/10 so so so so so so so good. I watched it as someone who did a LOT of theater growing up so I was watching it from that standpoint and I got a lot out of it and what was interesting was that again what I got from it was really different from what others did. I loved how it kind of dealt with the duality of an actress who uses her life experiences to fuel the life of her characters, but in turn, kind of ends up viewing her own life through the lens of the roles she's played. It's kind of an "I use my experiences to pretend to be other people so often that I'm not always certain whether what I'm feeling is genuinely my own reaction and experience, or if I'm just acting that way" ambiguity thing that I identified very strongly with

12. Paprika -- 8-9/10, I probably need to watch it a few more times before I can honestly say I really 100% get what's going on. Like, I sorta do, on the surface, but I can't say I got much out of it other than it was trippy and beautiful and really amazing[DOUBLEPOST=1396661879,1396661623][/DOUBLEPOST]13. oh, and bee movie. i feel like "had to drink a shot to get through it, it was so bad" is a rating on its own.

13/30
