The Starving Games
: 3/10/14 To give this movie a grade even an F is an insult to the letter F as well as to the movies I've previously given F's to. I could at least sit through Wrong Turn 5 and American Pie Band Camp

I don't know if you can say that I actually "watched" this movie because I only made it through the first 20 minutes of this unbearable, inept piece of gutter trash. I have prided myself in my ability to sit through terrible movies. I've seen The Room 28 times. I've seen Thankskilling and Troll 2 well over 10 times apiece. I've seen Birdemic: Shock & Terror. I regularly search to find the worst movies I can. I even sat through the unwatchable mess that is The Last Airbender despite the fact that it was 100 minutes of taking a massive **** on one of the best cartoons of all time. I just couldn't do this. I've even seen previous Seltzer/Friedberg "comedies." I've seen Epic Movie and Vampires Suck. This is on a whole new level of ****ing atrocious. I don't know how someone can make a movie this bad and not feel shame afterwards. If I made this movie and watched it I don't think I could live with myself because I would have made this movie thinking that there is some person out there who is actually dumb enough to laugh at one single "joke" found in this thing. There are no standards for any jokes in this movie. Within the first ****ing ten seconds of this ****ing Frankenstein creature, the first Goddamn "joke" in the film, is the Gale character making "Katmiss" (Which I'm impressed that Seltzer and Friedberg aren't even clever enough to realize that they could've named the character "CAT PISS" IT'S LIKE THE EASIEST JOKE EVER AND YOU EVEN ****ED THAT UP) miss her shot with a bow and arrow and it hits Oz from Oz: The Great and Powerful because GET IT THAT WAS A POPULAR MOVIE. Harry Potter, Hermoine, and Ron show up because get it they're not supposed to be there their movie franchise is over. A character gives another character a high five but OH NO THE ONE GUY HAD A FAKE ARM AND THE HIGH FIVE TORE IT OFF OOPSIE POOPSIE ISN'T THAT A RIOT. **** this movie. **** everyone who was involved in the creation of this movie. Anyone who has the patience to actually sit through this ass-bomb deserves to be a saint in the Roman Catholic Church because watching this movie in full has to account for roughly ten gazillion miracles.

****.
Surely they must make money somehow? Perhaps it's just designed to be an ultra low budget flick to get a return from nearly any amount of viewers.

^ Considering that I've seen Youtube videos with better special effects than that film, it is ultra low budget.

I was thinking about PanFan's post and why Seltzer and Friedberg's mashup parodies don't work and why others' do. One critic summed it up best:
Nathan Rabin wrote:...spoof movies, as practiced by the cultural blight that is Seltzer-Friedberg, aren't just troubling from an aesthetic viewpoint. They're horrifying from a moral standpoint as well. The parody of the Zucker brothers and Mel Brooks is defined by love, knowledge, and appreciation: The Zucker brothers and Mel Brooks love, know, and appreciate the source material they're spoofing enough to get all the details perfect. The comedy of Seltzer-Friedberg, in sharp contrast, is defined by contempt: contempt for the attention span, intelligence, maturity, and frame of reference for the audience, and an even more raging contempt for the source material they're spoofing. Friedberg and Seltzer aren't writers; they're comic terrorists who cavalierly destroy what others create for their own ugly self-interest. Their success is entirely dependent on making comedy a dumber, crasser, less dignified place.

The Prestige - 1/25/14 - 9.5/10
Rush - 1/25/14 - 8.5/10
Prisoners - 2/1/14 - 8.5/10
The Lego Movie - 3/8/14 - 8.5/10
Rurouni Kenshin - 3/16/14 - 9/10

These are all movies I hadn't watched before. No point in bolding them.

Rurouni Kenshin was a good movie: good action scenes, drama... I watched Samurai X when I was little, but I don't remember a thing about it. However, I had the feeling a lot of parts of the manga /anime were left out in the movie. So I recommend reading the manga or watching the anime first to get to know the characters better. Although you don't really have to do that to enjoy the movie.

Right here: http://www.avclub.com/article/the-surre ... ther-91699

Also, up to 10/30:

Wordplay (Creadon, 2006), 1-2-14 – 10/10
Annie Hall (Allen, 1977), 1-13-14 – 586/10
Runaway Train (Konchalovsky, 1985), 1-23-14 – 6/10
Paul (Mottola, 2011), 1-24-14 – 6.5/10
Risky Business (Brickman, 1983), 2-15-14 – 8.5/10
The Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean, 1957), 2-22-14 – 10/10
Admission (Weitz, 2013), 2-24-14 – 5/10
The LEGO Movie (Lord and Miller, 2014), 3-2-14 – 11.5/10
Hitchcock (Gervaski, 2012), 3-4-14 – 7.5/10
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Reiner, 1982), 3-16-14 – 8.5/10

Coincidentally, the last one is an example of a mashup parody that is, in fact, reverent and praiseful of the source material it's spoofing, and it's fun to see Steve Martin add his comic flair to an otherwise serious role.

holes- -8/10
zoolander-3/(12 or 19)-9/10
hot rod-3/(12 or 19)-8/10
guilt trip- -7/10

again, I've probably watched way more but just can't rememeber them and netflix only holds your 100 most recent views now so :/

and a question, are we counting comedy specials as movies? if so I'm in the hundreds by now

^ I'd say the comedy special counts if it's a theatrical release. Like Eddie Murphy: Raw would count but not Jim Gaffigan: King Baby.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes
