53) Million Dollar Mermaid - B-. Casual misogyny of the times aside, now I actually understand why Esther Williams movies were a big deal.
54) Moonshot (2024) - B. Charming & witty space romcom with likeable leads; title is a misnomer, though (they're going to Mars, not the Moon).
55) The Wedding Planner - D-. Seemingly designed to piss me off in every way possible. Judy Greer is underused.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

56) The Legend of El Chupacabra - C+. Shockingly good script, solid cast, sloppy directing/editing.
57) X-Men: Dark Phoenix - D+. Sophie Turner was awful, almost everyone else was good, strong opening, dull after that.
58) Deadpool & Wolverine - A-. Great build for a multiverse story, a lot of heart, just a few jokes didn't land.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I had no idea ATHF had such recent content, glad to see it's still good too.

10) Watched Deadpool & Wolverine with the missus. Solid use of gratuitous violence and cameos.
Spoiler.

Re: 100 Movies for 2024!
So I'm watching one of the endless MST3K livestreams they have on YouTube. Current flick is 'Pumaman'. Great episode.
Unbelievably goofy movie, of course, and yet there's things to like about it. Donald Pleasance is always good (he must have had that sort of Christopher Walken/Michael Caine attitude, where he was just happy to be working, no matter how dumb the project was). I like the ridiculous theme song. I actually kind of like the Pumaman himself, even though he's kind of smarmy, and of course Vadinho is rad (he single-handedly beats the crap out of like forty henchman during the end-of-movie brawl. You'd see Pumaman bouncing around in the background like a dorkmotron, and meanwhile Vadinho is in the foreground dealing out haymakers like it's haymaker'o'clock on christmas morning).
There must be a cosmic balance of some sort. Like, for every horrible 'hero' from an MST3K, like Sheriff Geronimo or Warrior of the Lost World, we get to have a cool Vadinho or a Dave Ryder. There can be no Ilya Mouromets without an equal and opposite Deathstalker).

^This. I saw the live show a few years ago, & this is a doc about how the show was developed & about the impact it had on Siobhan's life.

It's hard to believe it's been nearly a quarter century since X-Men released, that's even older than the first Spiderman movie, isn't it?

Re: 100 Movies for 2024!
11) Kinda of Kindness is kind of 3 different movies, with the cast playing different roles in each one. I've come to learn it's what's called a triptych fable. It's really strange and has a lot of uncomfortable scenes. I tend to be on board with movies willing to do new unusual things, though. It's got some great actors, and I appreciate watching these people committing to odd characters.
The stories kept me wanting to get to the reveal of what's really going on, and the endings didn't answer all the questions I'd had. Instead, after each story I would end up trying to think through what the story might have been a metaphor for. I've got some ideas on the first two, less clear on the third. I think I'm still digesting it.

I rewatched Rain Man, it's a really good movie. Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman are incredible actors.

Re: 100 Movies for 2024!
So last Saturday was the last day of "Summer Under the Stars" on TCM. Saturday they were focusing on old Tony Curtis, and so I saw 'The Great Race' for the first time since I was a kid. Forgot what a fun movie that is. It's sort of a primordial iteration of 'Wacky Races', with good old Jack Lemmon playing a sort of Dick Dastardly/Snidely Whiplash type. Good times.

Re: 100 Movies for 2024!
Attack on Titan: Chronicle is essentially the first few seasons of Attack on Titan re-edited into a film. It's fine but like the Death Note equivalent, I think it'd be better to just cover the entire series in one film, even if it has to be Lord of the Rings-tier length.

73) The Princess Bride - A+
74) Return to Me - C. Funnier than I expected, but also just as cheesy as I expected.

Re: 100 Movies for 2024!
I watched Blackfox, it's a sort of generic anime movie about revenge and predictably does the "revenge is bad, mm'kay" pacifist thing I hate, and leaves off on a cliffhanger (plus there's no sequel after half a decade, so there probably won't ever be one, unfortunately).
Still, it was entertaining and good enough, 7/10. The animation would've been a 10/10 if it wasn't for the cheap looking CG they inserted in a few places, bringing the presentation down a bit. But the action sequences (too few) were actually incredible regardless.
