Up to 7/30:

Wordplay (Creadon, 2006), 1-2-14 – 10/10
Annie Hall (Allen, 1977), 1-13-14 – 586/10
Runaway Train (Konchalovsky, 1985), 1-23-14 – 6/10
Paul (Mottola, 2011), 1-24-14 – 6.5/10
Risky Business (Brickman, 1983), 2-15-14 – 8.5/10
The Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean, 1957), 2-22-14 – 10/10
Admission (Weitz, 2013), 2-24-14 – 5/10

It's interesting to see Tina Fey cast against type, but it subverts your expectations at the wrong times, the romance just has to be there, and there's a really big continuity error in one scene where the Jeremiah's shirt keeps getting tucked and untucked with every shot/reverse shot.

Up to 8/30:

Wordplay (Creadon, 2006), 1-2-14 – 10/10
Annie Hall (Allen, 1977), 1-13-14 – 586/10
Runaway Train (Konchalovsky, 1985), 1-23-14 – 6/10
Paul (Mottola, 2011), 1-24-14 – 6.5/10
Risky Business (Brickman, 1983), 2-15-14 – 8.5/10
The Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean, 1957), 2-22-14 – 10/10
Admission (Weitz, 2013), 2-24-14 – 5/10
The LEGO Movie (Lord and Miller, 2014), 3-2-14 – 11.5/10

The meta-referencing, the animation style, the fact that I really cared about each of the characters, no matter how generic or specific they were...I think I'll write a full review in my blog.

Think I'll bold new additions to the list henceforth. Makes the titles pop.

Movies 4/30---

John Dies at the End - 02/13/2014 - 6/10
Aguirre, the Wrath of God - 02/13/2014 - 9/10
The Lego Movie - 03/03/2014 - 10/10
Sita Sings the Blues - 03/04/2014 - 10/10

'The Lego Movie' was just bubbling over with personality and fun. (Also I'm an entire sucker for stop-motion animation.)
'Sita Sings the Blues'---strange, by turns funny and poignant, and utterly charming throughout. Free to watch; if you have an hour-some to kill, you could do worse by a damn sight.

Haven't seen anything I out-and-out despised yet this year. (*eyes stack of unwatched superhero movies warily*) ...nothing lasts forever...

Up to 9/30:

Wordplay (Creadon, 2006), 1-2-14 – 10/10
Annie Hall (Allen, 1977), 1-13-14 – 586/10
Runaway Train (Konchalovsky, 1985), 1-23-14 – 6/10
Paul (Mottola, 2011), 1-24-14 – 6.5/10
Risky Business (Brickman, 1983), 2-15-14 – 8.5/10
The Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean, 1957), 2-22-14 – 10/10
Admission (Weitz, 2013), 2-24-14 – 5/10
The LEGO Movie (Lord and Miller, 2014), 3-2-14 – 11.5/10
Hitchcock (Gervaski, 2012), 3-4-14 – 7.5/10

Don't know why this one faced the criticism it faced. It's pretty well-constructed for a biopic packed with one-liner jokes.

33/30

The Starving Games
: 3/10/14 To give this movie a grade even an F is an insult to the letter F as well as to the movies I've previously given F's to. I could at least sit through Wrong Turn 5 and American Pie Band Camp

I don't know if you can say that I actually "watched" this movie because I only made it through the first 20 minutes of this unbearable, inept piece of gutter trash. I have prided myself in my ability to sit through terrible movies. I've seen The Room 28 times. I've seen Thankskilling and Troll 2 well over 10 times apiece. I've seen Birdemic: Shock & Terror. I regularly search to find the worst movies I can. I even sat through the unwatchable mess that is The Last Airbender despite the fact that it was 100 minutes of taking a massive **** on one of the best cartoons of all time. I just couldn't do this. I've even seen previous Seltzer/Friedberg "comedies." I've seen Epic Movie and Vampires Suck. This is on a whole new level of **** atrocious. I don't know how someone can make a movie this bad and not feel shame afterwards. If I made this movie and watched it I don't think I could live with myself because I would have made this movie thinking that there is some person out there who is actually dumb enough to laugh at one single "joke" found in this thing. There are no standards for any jokes in this movie. Within the first **** ten seconds of this **** Frankenstein creature, the first Goddamn "joke" in the film, is the Gale character making "Katmiss" (Which I'm impressed that Seltzer and Friedberg aren't even clever enough to realize that they could've named the character "CAT PISS" IT'S LIKE THE EASIEST JOKE EVER AND YOU EVEN **** THAT UP) miss her shot with a bow and arrow and it hits Oz from Oz: The Great and Powerful because GET IT THAT WAS A POPULAR MOVIE. Harry Potter, Hermoine, and Ron show up because get it they're not supposed to be there their movie franchise is over. A character gives another character a high five but OH NO THE ONE GUY HAD A FAKE ARM AND THE HIGH FIVE TORE IT OFF OOPSIE POOPSIE ISN'T THAT A RIOT. **** this movie. **** everyone who was involved in the creation of this movie. Anyone who has the patience to actually sit through this ass-bomb deserves to be a saint in the Roman Catholic Church because watching this movie in full has to account for roughly ten gazillion miracles.

****.
