The Simpsons, in it's prime, was one of the most intelligent, humorous shows on television. To echo the sentiments of several posters already (who, not coincidentally, are all older) it has definitely declined in the past several years.

I enjoy Futurama. Family Guy is only occasionally funny now - Seth McFarlane just got a little too bitter, and started making stupid, spiteful jokes just to be an ass.

I share everyone's opinion about The Simpsons and Family Guy. Meanwhile, Futurama is perhaps one of my favorite shows of all time.

I still like The Simpsons. It's not as good as it once was, but I still enjoy watching it. I also love Futurama, I find it hilarious.

Family Guy, on the other hand, bugs the crap out of me. I used to like it, but the humor of the show just got so very old after a while.

The definitive jumping the shark moment for me was when they retconned the past to happen in the 90's.

On the Simpsons, that is.

It was one of the best, but there was no way it could stay good forever. That'd be impossible.

'Last Exit to Springfield' should be taught in film studies for how perfect it is. Season 4. Everything from season 2 - 8, in my opinion, is gold, although you can notice the progressive changes to the series. Changes which, ultimately, would stagnate everything. The simpsons turned from the - most - realistic - depiction of family life in a sitcom (putting crap like the Waltons and Family Matters to shame, and only met by say, Roseanne) despite being a cartoon. The early episodes were almost serious if not for the wit. There was a comparason made in a review of the SImpsons' position nowadays between the days when you would see an episode end with Homer and Marge riding off in the sunset on a bicycle to Homer taking Marge out with a blowgun dart to the neck.

When was the last time you can remember that cartoon being touching?

Gal - how can you not like it!? I'm curious. You're like some kind of strange phenomenon to me, because insofar as I know, you're not too young to fully appreciate all the subtleties in the series.

The Simpsons went downhill after they stopped trying to appeal to blue collar audiences and switched the focus from character-based stories to zany antics to appeal to a wider audience. It's called switching from narrowcasting to broadcasting.

Eh, I must be missing something. Every time I've watched it, it contained nothing but jejune humour and annoying gags. Perhaps I truly should attempt to witness the old, old episodes of the Simpsons, but my opinion of it is forged simply on the material I've seen.

I liked The Simpsons when I was a kid, now it's just ridiculous. Futurama blew The Simpsons outta the water, IMO. The last episode of The Simpson I watched was...hm, the one where Homer cuts off his finger, puts it in pickle juice, gets drunk and...I forgot what happend after that. I just don't like the show anymore.

Futurama was a stroke of genius, I seen all the episodes but I need to see that new Bender movie.

Futurama can't touch the original Simpsons episodes, sorry.

And as for blowing the new ones out of the water, practically anything can do that. The Simpsons merely became too accustomed to being #1 to actually defend itself with good episodes anymore.

A similar effect killed Sonic, just much, much faster.

"The Beast with a billion backs" The second of three direct to DVD Futurama movies that when split up into half hour episodes form the newest season of said show.

I though it was Sega Pulling a Capcom with the Sonic games that caused that?

Not enough Sonic games for it to really be a capcom; instead of dividing it up into many separate series they just sorta made one bad series.
