THE family of former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore says he has died aged 89 from “a short but brave battle with cancer”.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer,” the family statement said.

Not my favorite Bond, but he was cool in The Saint. He was my mom's second favorite Bond though. She grew up with him.

It could be fairly argued that Moore was the worst Bond, but one can't deny he had some fantastic Bond moments.

One of my favourite moments in the franchise occurred in 'Octopussy', when Bond killed the second knife-thrower. Taking revenge for a fellow 00 them pricks had killed. Man, he was so tough and rad. Cold, righteous fury. 'That's for 009'. Wuff. Gooseflesh, dude.

The one Roger Moore Bond film I enjoy the most is Live and Let Die. It's virtually flawless with the exception of how the main villain dies.

Have you seen 'For Your Eyes Only' or 'Octopussy'?

Yeah I've seen all of them. I like For Your Eyes Only too - the more serious and well-plotted of the Moore films. Octopussy was meh. However I was always a fan of the last thirty minutes or so where Bond has to go on the longest chase ever for the nuclear bomb. The DVD commentary for Octopussy is hilarious by the way. Moore sounds like he's drunk for the whole thing. When he's commenting on the bed scene between Bond and that one girl, he interrupts himself when he watches himself kiss the girl and he says, "Oh God - the tongue."

The pre-titles scene in For Your Eyes Only was rather oddly out of place though.

I dislike Moonraker the most - out of all Bond movies in general. That movie was purely done to try and be up to snuff with the recent Star Wars craze. The DVD commentaries were quite laughable too. The director was all like "We are not about science fiction - we are science fact!" Sure thing, buddy. Also, having being an archaeology minor in college, I scream internally when they try to casually pass off Mayan ruins in the Amazon.

I think we should talk about all this in a separate Bond thread though. I can go all Bond-geek post after post. Despite Moore not being my favorite Bond, gotta respect him. I did watch episodes of The Saint, which were really good and which I feel he was better suited for.
