Her making the magic snow castle was my favorite part of the movie because it didn't involve Anna and the magic snow castle looked cool.

I feel like the movie could have been really great if Elsa was the main character instead, if her magic ice powers had actually been put into any context other than "family issues" [or if they actually bothered developing that either] because why did she even have them in the first place and why was it such a big deal that people should know? Was there a history of like witches with magic ice powers ruining everything in the past or smth?, and if Disney didn't literally end up making the entire film about romance anyway even though supposedly this is the film that ISN'T EVEN ABOUT THAT, except it is and they just subvert it in the very end.[DOUBLEPOST=1394482449,1394482290][/DOUBLEPOST]

yeah like i said

tangled reskins everywhere

im like 90% certain even hans's **** horse was a reskin of the tangled horse, like come on

disney you really could try varying at the very least the facial structures of your characters, since clearly the body type thing isn't changing anytime soon

It's a strange sort of thing that live-action film seems automatically to get a leg up over animation. Like, I grant I'm no film expert, but, really, it should ought to be the best piece of storytelling, irrespective of medium. I know it's subjective, but come on, here. Like, Miyazaki had been making significant, artistically relevant films for what, some twenty-five-ass years before the Academy at last once recognised him for 'Spirited Away'. (Hell, didn't Spielberg say 'Castle of Cagliostro' was one of the best movies he'd ever seen? Not to suggest he's some infallible authority, but, for f*ck's sake, I'd take the recommendation of the guy made 'Jaws' over that of some sh*tbird know-nothing critic any day).

(EDIT: Incidentally, I can easily see 'The Lego Movie' getting nominated for an Academy Award by simple virtue of its being really, really good, though I also won't be surprised when it never ever happens. If not because of it releasing early in the year, then because merely being a fantastic movie doesn't mean jack. There seems to be a weird arbitrary level of artsiness that does (or doesn't?) have to be met.)

I'm very apprehensive about seeing Lego Movie.

Is it another case of "the trailers make it look god-****-awful but it's actually good"? Because the trailers make it look god-****-awful. But so did the HTTYD trailers, so. Maybe I should just never ever rely on trailers ever.

Solution: make more animated films about the touching or weird life of someone. Preferably someone that can be considered 'weird' by society physically or mentally, if you want all the awards.

I don't know how to recommend 'The Lego Movie'. It sounded and looked terribly generic from the first I heard of it. Then I heard the excellent reviews, so I decided to treat my goofy sister and her goofy kids to a showing of it, and it ended up just being a really good, really well-written, really well-realised thing. If you're expecting this generation's 'Shoah' or something, you may be disappointed---if you merely hope after an entirely rock-solid fun flick, then you might be pleasantly surprised.

Of course Lego doesn't win. Chances are the Academy forgets it ever even existed well before the end of the year. 'Huh. I seem to recall there being another animated flick this year, back in that twilit era before the return of Spring...ahhhh, hell with it, let's just nominate that Peabody and Sherman thing twice, we're gonna miss happy hour if we don't get going.'

Kiiinda stupid how the time of year your movie comes out has such a massive impact on how well it might do in the awards.

but it's ok, because httyd2 is going to be better than it anyway, and will deserve to win instead, which it better

also please do me the kindness of just not talking about it if it ends up sucking

I recommend the Lego Movie. The only movie in recent memory that has made me laugh as consistently as The Lego Movie was 21 Jump Street, which coincidentally was directed by the same dudes.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

The original Peabody & Sherman shorts should've won an Emmy. But the movie looks exactly as stupid as every other terrible-live-action-movie-based-on-a-really-good-cartoon-from-several-decades-ago-that-somehow-all-use-the-exact-same-font-for-their-titles in the past 10 years.

^You know, I've actually heard really good things about the Peabody and Sherman movie. Like, I concede the trailers are an absolute turn-off, but if there's one lesson to take away from 'The Lego Movie', it's that a lacklustre trailer doesn't always signify.

Besides, it's not unheard-of for a goofy kids show from the past to end up making a good movie (I can't be the only person who liked 'Speed Racer' and that Brendan Fraser-ful 'George of the Jungle' flick). I mean, of course you have to put in the effort to stay true to the original property and not change sh*t just for the sake of appealing to retarded modern audiences, lest you wind up in Squeakquel/Underdog territory, but that doesn't make it impossible.

Indeed. I liked the George of the Jungle movie too, & a buddy of mine who runs a film review blog actually gave some significant compliments to 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman'. It really is a turnoff, though, that it's being marketed pretty much EXACTLY like the Smurfs movie or the Squeakquel. GotJ wasn't sold that way.
