http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/04/17/s ... vies-2015/Confirming a strategy of aggressive franchise expansion, Disney announced today at CinemaCon that they are planning to release a new Star Wars movie every year, starting with the J.J. Abrams-powered Episode VII in summer 2015. The plan is to release a standalone spinoff the following year — probably one of the projects focusing on Boba Fett or Young Han Solo — and alternate between numerals and spinoffs from there.
Assuming the films are successful, this means the total number of Star Wars films will nearly double by summer 2019. Presumably, Disney is hoping that each of the spinoffs will form their own franchises, much like X-Men and The Avengers.

*Cue Star Wars Theme*
STAR WARS
EPISODE XXXVII: THE DISNEY EMPIRE RUNS OUT OF FRESH IDEAS AND DECIDES TO MASH UP EVERY MEDIA FRANCHISE IT OWNS
When we last left Billy-Bob Skywalker, great-great-great-great grandson of Luke, he had rescued Kermit the Frog from the clutches of the vile Chitauri fleet, captained by Lightning McQueen. Meanwhile, Carl Fredricksen, who bore witness to the resurrection of the Red Skull, gathered important intel on the whereabouts of the Tesseract, which has been eaten by Jar Jar Binks, causing him to turn into a wide-eyed pink guy that can only say, "Meemeemeemeemeemeemeemeep!"

...by what math is fourteen 'nearly double' to nine? Or were the writers of this article not counting the Ewok adventures (which are rad---don't even start with me, I will fight you) or that 'Clone Wars' flick (which was also good)?this means the total number of Star Wars films will nearly double by summer 2019
Man, 'Shadows of the Empire' was so great. That was a beautiful time in Star Wars history---like, right after SotE hit, game and book and comics and all, still well before there was more than the barest whisper of the prequels. Back when the franchise was still invincible.
Back then, the thought of new SW movies every year would have made me go berzonkers. The intervening seventeen years have rather dampened my enthusiasm.

I guess. Don't see why anyone would complain about there being a few more good movies in the franchise to help reduce the impact of the prequels (unless they hate Star Wars or something), but I suppose I can see the logic of only counting the numbered films...
...though that, in turn, begs the question of why the announced Han Solo and Boba Fett side-stories are included.
Oh well. Like they say, 'Every once in a while, declare peace.' (That's a Star Wars thing, right? Sure it is.)
