Movies You Hate, That Everyone Else Likes

Again, I saw a video like this on the Thatguywiththeglasses website, and it got me to thinking. I'm sure we all got them!

One of the movies I can't stand is Wedding Crashers. I'll admit, I can't stand Vince Vaughn, the only thing I liked him in was Jurassic Park 2 (and ironically, alot of people hate that movie). He always just seems like the same character in every movie, and nothing he says is funny, EVER! Anyway, I just didn't see the appeal of Wedding Crashers. It was........almost fun, but, I didn't think it was funny at all. I just couldn't wait until the movie was over. It just seemed like the most basic movie ever. "Oh OK, 2 guys love going to parties, one guy falls in love, the other is like why dude, and blah blah blah". I just really don't like that movie, at all!

I'm normally one to judge a movie more on its aesthetic merits as opposed to its themes and messages, but the two biggest examples I can think of are movies that I both don't care for aesthetically and can't stand from a thematic standpoint.

Garden State: Apparently, dating Natalie Portman is the cure to mental illness. Yeah, let's all stop taking our medication without advice from our psychiatrists on how to safely do so! Also, if Zach Braff wanted to introduce the world to The Shins, he could have done so in a more subtle way. Come on. "Yo, listen dude, it'll change your life." Seriously, whose entire life has its course changed by a band?

Gone With the Wind: Milk that cow your damn self, Scarlett.

The Social Network. It's basically a feature-length Facebook promo disguised as a factually inaccurate character study.

I don't like Vince Vaughn either. Or Jack Black. Or Robin Williams.

Lord of the Rings. I'm not saying they're bad but I've always found them cheesy and unwatchable.

^ They have crap parts, like the beginning of the first and end of the last, but overall they're solid movies. Among my favorite, but I can understand your view.

That's one of the reasons why I like it.
I muttered 'light as a board, stiff as a feather' for 2 days straight and now I've ascended, ;aughing at olympus and zeus is crying

That's my brother's favorite Christmas movie. I like to watch it as well every now and then. Oddly I don't think I've EVER seen the ending, despite the fact that TBS or TNT or whatever has a 24 hour marathon of it every year.

I've always rather wondered how 'Christmas Story' would come off without the narration. I think I'd like it a lot more. It'd be more understated. Sort of like 'Garfield Minus Garfield' as compared to the vanilla comic---strip off that smothering layer of joke overexplanation, maybe there's something enjoyable underneath. I don't know.

^But keep "only I didn't say fudge". Just that one sentence fragment.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Rocky IV. I'll admit, Ivan Drago is cool character, and his fight with Rocky at the end was one of the best in the series. There were some cool moments throughout, too (like the training montage).
However, the Cold War symbolism was a bit too heavy-handed and propaganda-y, and the whole exercise vs steroids thing was predictable, too. And there was that damn robot! The fact that Paulie had a robot wife really throws out the realism that the films had up to that point. Ugh.

I'm guessing it's such a well-loved movie due to 80s nostalgia and whatnot. It's better than Rocky V, I'll admit.

I hated the Texas Chainsaw Massacre: New Generation. The elements of Leatherface is lost and it has a very confusing story line or it has no story at all. Even the kills are dull and uninspired.
