The Man With the Iron Fists

Even the green band "approved for all audiences" trailer is a bit iffy to post here for VGF. But here's a link to it anyway. It has violence and the suggestion of sex.

The Man With the Iron Fists is the feature film directorial debut of rapper/producer/musical demigod RZA, the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan. Anyone who is relatively familiar with Wu-Tang probably knows that kung fu movies play a large part of the group's aesthetic, largely due to RZA's status as a dictionary of kung fu movies. So it's no surprise that his first movie* would be a wild, all-out fight-fest.

Stars Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Cung Le, and the RZA himself.
Looks like a Hard R rating for this one. Don't bring the children. Violence. Sex.

It looks like it will either be absolutely awesome or absolutely awful. The action should at least be good, though. It's choreographed by Cory Yuen, responsible for two of my all time favorite action sequences.

* = he actually has directed a few movies before this one, but neither saw release, as he was still an "apprentice" under the likes of John Woo, Quentin Tarantino, and Jim Jarmusch.

I saw "Quentin Tarantino" and immediately though "ugh".
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

This looks dope. The soundtrack is fantastic, by the way. If you're a fan of hip hop, especially Wu-Tang, check it out.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

I saw ads for this a bunch of times while waiting for my Vita. Looks like a badass movie.

Looks interesting, although the action shots looked a bit clumsy to me.

The action looks like it has the potential to be a lot better than the action in about, say, 95% of Hollywood films. Of course, this is my assumption based on the fact that the editing in the trailer is going to be choppier than the film itself, due to time/content restrictions.

But seriously, don't get me started on the unbelievable degree of ineptitude of the action sequences in Batman Beings.

I'm going to assume that Batman Beings is a movie about an entire race of Batmen, and that I have to see it.

I know what you're saying about the action in Batman films, although I think in that particular case you have to compare the previous Batman films and media which apparently don't realize he's actually supposed to throw a punch every now and then.

Oh man, this was... pretty much what I expected to get.

I must concede, AI, you ended up being partly correct about the action. Some of it could have been staged better, as bits of it were a bit difficult to pick out. However, the action you can see is pretty damn good. The acting is... well, it's like RZA wanted everyone to deliver their lines like the dub actors from the 1970's, which doesn't translate as well one would hope.

I remember reading that it was hard for RZA to cut this movie down into its current length of 96 minutes (as the original cut was apparently near 3 hours), and watching the movie, I get the feeling that the longer cut would have been a better movie, as this version tends to jump from storyline to storyline very quickly and not take much time developing them individually. Further evidence is seen in the credits, as characters who appeared minor during the movie are given their chance to show off their stuff when it goes through all the actors.

So yeah. This isn't really "good" per se, but I liked it for what it was. Which is pretty much exactly what I expected. Also, the soundtrack and score kick ass.

By the way, this movie contains a ridiculous amount of shout-outs to classic kung fu flicks.
