is incredibly good. If you liked the early-90's Disney Movies (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King), you will like this movie, almost guaranteed. It's great stuff.
also, it's NOTHING LIKE THE PREVIEWS. Don't let them cloud your judgment.
Who cares, she's freaking hot as a brunette.
Gracious Donator wrote:
The ending was pretty predictable, but at the same time, not really. I didn't expect him to chop off her hair, but the whole "magic tear brings him back to live because the magic is still inside her" thing was expected immediately.
Actual plot, preconceived characters, and actual cinematographer in HtTYD make everything else Dreamworks has ever done look like amateur hour. Not that their older films need help looking like that, but it's pretty amazing how Dragon managed to not suck at all when looking at literally anything else they've done.Dowdy Kitchen Man wrote:If you hate Dreamworks, please don't count out How To Train Your Dragon. It's excellent, and absolutely NOTHING like a normal Dreamworks movie.
We might've gotten a different trailer here, because I thought this actually looked entertaining/funny in a way that Dreamworks really doesn't normally manage. With the princess theme, I expected the worst most cliched jokes, etc, but it still seemed like it had something going for it in the characters. The gags weren't stale, either.
I muttered 'light as a board, stiff as a feather' for 2 days straight and now I've ascended, ;aughing at olympus and zeus is crying

I finally saw this, and really enjoyed it (my bf did too)!
I loved the art style - everything was so beautiful. I also actually really enjoyed the voice acting - Mandy Moore was iffy for me, but she and Zac did a great job bringing their characters to life.
My biggest critique is the music. This is probably one of Menken's weakest efforts...ever, really. None of the songs were particularly memorable (I did enjoy "Mother Knows Best," but it's no "Poor Unfortunate Souls" which is a shame, because some of Menken's best songs are for villains). Not that that's all his fault, Glenn Slater's lyrics were not the strongest (Howard Ashman, we miss you!), and I actually felt that the music should have just been cut out altogether (and that's usually my favorite part!). It just didn't fit.
But, that's actually a small quibble I have - I think the rest of the movie was enjoyable enough to ignore the poor music, and I'd definitely watch it again. :)
