New animated film from Sylvain Chomet ('Triplets of Belleville'), finally out stateside (coming to Milwaukee's sundrenched tropical shores on Feb. 4th).

Trailer available here.

Think it looks terrific. Can't hardly wait.

I know titles aren't copyrightable (& it's a good thing, too), but seriously, The Illusionist just came out a few years ago.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yeah, talk about poor brand identity. I saw this and thought, "What? Didn't that come out in 08 or something?"

This looks pretty great, though. I'm definitely interested.

It's based on a script by the one and only Jacques Tati, the man who made Play Time, which is one of the greatest and most unique films ever made.

That this reference will go over everyone's heads depresses me like you will not believe.

^ I might have been exaggerating with the "depresses the hell out of me" part. Slightly.

Mostly I'm attempting to assert that this film is more noteworthy than the Ed Norton vehicle.

^Eisenstein speaks so little that I think of it more as a Paul Giamatti vehicle.

We're not saying it won't be a great or important film. We're saying giving your movie the same name as a recent major release isn't helping anyone, least of all you.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Finally saw it tonight (the Milwaukee premiere having been shoved back nearly a month). It was beautifully rendered, charming and poignant. Probably the best new movie I've seen in years. I recommend.
