With the wolf drawing ever closer to gnawing him to death, Ganfren had no choice but to attempt to alter the creature's mind. Fortunately Ganfren was able to enslave the creature which ultimately saved his life.
Ganfren was reluctant to release the creature from its imprisonment at first because he was afraid the wolf would attack him again. However, as days passed the thought of releasing the wolf hadn't struck his mind. After learning of the wolves' strong sense of detecting rare herbs for his research, Ganfren was able to advance his research at a much faster, yet more alarming rate.

Equipment
Quarterstaff
Dagger
Backpack (tent, 3 days trail rations)
Simple Clothes
Medicine Kit (4 painkillers, 2 antidotes, 3 healing roots)
Flask of the Researcher: Unbreakable, alters and improves the qualities of items added to make potions.
Healing Roots can be ground into a powder and mixed into the flask with water in order to make a potion that causes wounds to regenerate over the course of an hour. It completely stopped all symptoms of your fiancee's disease while the regeneration occured, but there's not enough to give her regular treatments, and it did nothing to reverse them. You were able to collect enough to get about a month's worth of the dosage before the source ran dry.
------------
You've arrived in a small town on the edge of the Emerald Jungle, one of the largest rainforests known to mankind. There's an outfit of slayers here (about two dozen). They mostly act as escorts into the jungles for medicinal researchers, loggers and such, and as the acting commanders for the town watch. You have it on good advice that the emerald jungle has the most diversity of any plantlife in any forests known to civilized lands. If there's a cure for your fiancee's sickness, it can likely be found here. The local commander for the Slayers is a man named Gerad. He's agreed to meet you and hear you out to see if your mission is worth a foray into the jungles. His office is in the town hall.
From the north entrance to town, you can see the town hall as described to you, directly in the center of town. All the buildings are two story, with shops on the bottom floor and residences on the top floors. There is a stone wall about twelve feet tall built around the town. The gates are large oak doors, reinforced with iron bars. There's a small mounted ballista about every eight feet along the wall. The entire town is underneath a large mosquito net. There is a gate on the south end of town, but unlike the one you just passed through, it's locked and heavily barred. There are people around town. Most of them are heading from one place to another in a hurry, but there's a class of young teens (nearly thirty students) in what appears to be a weapons training class. A few learning to shoot a bow, a few dueling, with three instructors walking around talking to the students. There are even a few practicing magic.
You've got about an hour until your meeting. What would you like to do?

Ganfren looked around in astonishment. Although the encampment always seemed on edge, prepared for combat, Ganfren enjoyed the atmosphere. Just outside was the shady luscious jungles that carried a large array of new and unknown plants and other medicinal materials. How he would enjoy living within the serenity of a secluded area such as this.
However he snapped back into reality shortly after, once again studying the camp. This jungle was not a vacation retreat by no means. In fact, it would be quite the opposite. At once he reset his mind back on his goal.
"Alright, what are the basics that I'll need. Food, water, flint, and weapons. The rest I should be able to find in the wilderness."
Unsure of where to go, Ganfren entered one of the buildings that represented one of the shops in the settlement in search of flint.

(oh, you've also got 100gp).
You enter a shop called "Bo's general supplies." As you enter, a bell sounds, announcing your entrance. A moment later, a man comes down the stairs. He's a large man in his mid 40s with gray hair, a beer gut and rough facial hair. He walks with a slight limp.
"Welcome! I'm Bo. Since I don't recognize you, can I assume you're the new Slayer that's supposed to meet with Gerad in a little while?"

(and I forgot, you're also supposed to have 3 days of rations, a backpack and tent, edited that stuff in).
He says "Of course. Although before you spend your own money, I'd talk to Gerad first, since he often pays for supplies out of his pocket for missions if you do something for him."
