Today is one of the four quarterly liscense exams. Along with you, there appear to be 9 other candidates hoping to win that prestigious liscense. Each of you was recruited by a liscensed hunter, put in charge of recruiting new members. Your recruitor, a contact you met during your time as a crimelord by the name of Jin, doesn't seem to be around. He told you that he would be the one in charge of the liscensing exam this quarter. Looking around the hall, you see a wooden stage erected in the middle of the room and a number of doors around the outer walls.

Scanning the other candidates you see

Two very thuggish looking guys standing and talking. They look like hired muscle, and are armed with a heavy mace and an axe. Both are wearing leather jerkins over chainmail.

Four young men, in their twenties, all seem to be warriors. Heavily armored and armed, with dark hair and beards, two are wearing capes, one has a house insignia on his cape, indicating nobility. You can't see the specific crest from where you're standing. Three of them are fooling around, chatting and laughing loudly.

A lone guy standing sitting on the edge of the room, leaning against the wall, hands behind his head. There's a crossbow sitting next to him (no bolt loaded), he's got a long sword right by his side. He's wearing a single leather bracer on his right hand. You can sense some magical runes from it, even where you're standing. You can sense a very strong aura coming from this guy. He's watching you with a hint of a smile.

Two young women (20's) wearing the robes of the Spiral Knights, an organization that raises zealous warriors that defend the church. Neither are carrying weapons or armor, but you can detect some very strong auras coming from these two.

You can approach someone or just wait around until Jin shows up.

He'd never associated with anyone and he certainly wasn't going to start now.

He'd simply wait until Jin showed up.

A few minutes goes by and Jin walks comes in from one of the doors along the back wall. He gets up on the stage and starts quieting everyone down.

"Let's get this thing started and done with. There's money to be made elsewhere after this is over. You've all been selected because your recruitor saw some potential as a hunter in you. That doesn't mean you're home free into the HA, you've got to show me what you've got now, and I don't get impressed easily. I can flunk you at any point for any reason whatsoever, so don't piss me off. Don't think you can flatter me and that'll get you anywhere cause I see through that ****, and I'll send you out of here faster than you can cry for mommy.

Anyways, there will be three phases to this exam. During all of them, you're free to do whatever you please, with whatever you please, and whatever you can get away with. This is a free for all survival of the fittest deal, however the rule of law still applies, only I am the sole law in this exam.

For the first phase, I want to see what you can do in a fight. Follow me outside."

Jin leads the group out a backdoor into a courtyard. There are two ivy covered stone walls on the righthand side and lefthand side of the courtyard. The far wall is clear of plants, and has a single staircase leading up to a sort of balcony, which extends along all three walls. In the center of the courtyard is a gazebo, ringed by a little moat about four feet wide and probably about as deep, with a single bridge, wide enough for one person to walk across. The whole courtyard is about sixty feet from this wall to the far wall, and about fourty feet from right wall to left wall.

"Alright, we're going to have a little war here. You'll each be paired up with someone based on drawn lottery number, and you'll have 5 minutes to decide on your tactics. Teams get to choose their starting point based on number drawn. There are no rules for this fight, but try to avoid killing the other candidates if you can. We've got good healing magic here, but we can't raise the dead.

Any questions before we draw numbers?"

Detharte followed quietly, not offended but more interesting in Jin's rude characteristics.

Sure of himself, he shows no emotion and expresses no desire to ask question, and instead simply remains silent and glances around to the other warriors standing about, waiting for him to get on with the exam.
