I really should have put "Sign Up" into the title of the other one. Eh, I can do that later I guess. Anyway, This is the story topic for the RPG "Descent", go to the other topic of nearly similar name if you want to sign up for it.
Also, sorry if you're expecting more, but I'm not used to long writings...

Dark shadows spread across the land; passing through the homes of many undetected by all. The shadows infest everything that they can, man and beast alike, slowly devouring the spirit resting within their hosts as they continue their quest for dominance over this world. While most are oblivious to their advance, the gods watching over this world grow worried about their growth.
A shining figure appears; the light wrapped around it concealing its form. A gentle voice calls out, "Help... This world is in danger, and our own powers are simply not great enough to stop the cause of it. Even though you may not feel it, you possess an incredible spirit, perhaps one strong enough to stop the evil flowing through this land. Sadly, as it is now, it simply isn't enough. We may be able to help you and grant you some of our strength, however you must travel to where our power is the strongest for us to do so. We beg of you, please defeat the dark spirits which plague the land..." As the last words are said, the light fades, and the world around you shifts to a more familiar scene.

Nalian awakens in his bed; a fading darkness surrounds him, pierced by a dim ray of light from the rising sun. He climbs out of bed, putting on his simple clothes and grabbing his walking stick, just in case he would need it. He leaves the house into the still sleeping town; slowly walking towards the edge of the town while thinking about the dream that woke him.
It was a message from the gods, that I'm sure... But what if it was nothing more than a foolish dream? I would just be wandering off to my own death. He stops moving for a second as he thinks, a sad look covering his face as he reaches a decision. I suppose that would be just as well, I'm not helping anyone here by staying... Plus if it is true I'll finally be able to do something that matters. ...If I can actually make it. He sighs, continuing towards the edge of the town while continuing to think of what is to come for him.
As he reached the end of the town, met by nothing more than just a sign with the town's name etched onto it, the sun had risen into the air. The darkness of night now just a path before him, a path he must walk upon. Stepping forward, out of the town he hears a faint cry behind him, noticing a brown cat moving towards him.
He lightly chuckles at the sight of the cat. Its been nearly two years since he had first found it injured and helped it recover, which was one thing he was proud of considering that most other things he had attempted quickly failled. Ever since that though, its been kind of a friend to him, following him around even if he didn't want it to.
"So, you want to come along too?" He asks, to the response of a meow. "Alright then, a bit of company is always good I gue- Hey!"
The cat leaps up onto his back and then rests itself on his shoulder, generating a sigh from Nalian as he keeps walking, eventually reaching a small forest after nearly two hours of walking. Nalian stops moving to rest at the edge of the forest, tired and unused to travelling longer distances. As he sits down, the cat awakens and leaps off of his shoulder, looking intently into the forest as it walks into it.
