Perfect! Alright let's get this show started! I think we really need a freeplay. It allows people to do what they want and shape their own characters rather than being controlled by a GM.

And to catch posters, we will have to most likely do a fantasy medieval rpg with magic, evil villains and all the like. Does anyone have any ideas or should we all try to create an rpg together like Prince Toad's famous "Ultimate RPG?"

Of course I am up for controlled as well, but for this forum's general welfare I think it needs freeplay.

Well basically Prince Toad made a topic where anyone who signed up had a say on what the rpg was going to be about, what kind of rules were allowed, and decided on a basic idea on where the rpg would go. So everyone agreed on this:

Ultimate RPG was basically about slaying gigantic dragons, called Drakes if I recall. The motive for slaying these dragons was to collect a dragon scale, which could be transformed into an amulet. The amulet was a powerful item that allowed the bearer to shape shift into a different form. (The nature amulet transformed the user into a panther, chill amulet into a polar bear, soul amulet into a ghost, etc.). These amulets gave the adventurers a powerful advantage over many of their foes and other hardships.

However, as the adventurers continued to collect amulets, they faced problems. Lithian (if I recall), was some guy that basically wanted to rule the world and obtain these amulets as well. He would send out troops and what not to try and stop the adventureres (eventually sending powerful X-15 Ninjas with Ultima Swords or something).

Rules were pretty simple. No one knew magic, but there were these objects called orbs which allowed non-magic wielding users to use magic. So basically, the topic allowed players to choose what weapons they wanted to use, what orbs (or magic) they wanted to use, and what amulet they wanted to use, keeping players balanced so that one player was not overpowered compared to another.

Unfortunately, the topic died when we were facing off with the Earth Drake. Basically the general idea of the story was to face all 13 drakes, collect the amulets, and destroy Lithian. I think we managed to slay about... 8 or 9 of the 13 dragons. And the topic lasting a very long time. It lasted at least 6 months, and died around a year or maybe even a year and a half after its creation. Two topics had to be created, because the original topic spanned over 25 pages worth of posts (which included VERY few junk "OOC" comments) and the second topic probably had about 12 pages worth of posts.

It seemed to be so successful because there was a direction for the story that everyone understood and allowed players to create whatever characters they wanted.

But yeah, that was Ultimate RPG, which quite ironically was named Ultimate RPG before anyone had any idea it would be the longest lasting RPG topic in VGF.

Yay, Activity

I'm somewhat surprised. I had thought most of the people interested in Roleplaying had left or gave up on it, but I guess I'm wrong. I'm not too good with Freeplay and D&D type games, but if you make them, or any RPG for that matter I'll support them. I'll also have an RPG up sometime soon, not sure of how successful it will be, but hopefully it will work out without a bunch of problems springing up...

The reason I'm more inclined on having a freeplay is because there is no specific order that people have to post. In the controlled games the player(s) have to post followed by the GM which causes the topics to move slower and often results in the death of a topic if there is too much delay. But if we all stick together in each other roleplays then we definitely can keep this forum up.

If only there was a way to get some of those Gunjin guys over there to help liven up this forum...

Controlled I think is a good form, its pretty much been the staple of the forum for years too... But there were a lot more people working on them back then, so it was easier to keep them up then too. Its probably a bit of a problem though, since the way most are set up is so different from traditional roleplaying that it looks wierd to others.

And with that said about problems with Controlled RPGs... The one I'm working on is also controlled. -_-; I suppose if you would rather though, I could try to do a free play or something and just save what I have for later. Let me know what you want to do I guess.

Well if you have a controlled I'll join it. If there's D and D I'll join it. I'm usually pretty good at keeping up to date on RPG's since that's my primary purpose on this entire forum. So I'm all for games, but hopefully it's not like last time when me and you(KB) were playing each other's rpgs lol. Maybe I'll try whipping up a freeplay of some sort and we can see if we can get some eh.. tourism here.

I've been thinking of an RPG, though it's hard to make up all these statistics and items and then have it NOT controlled.

Perhaps we could make a freeplay by D&D's rules. Skills would have to be taken out, or drastically redone, as "skill checks" couldn't be done. Monsters, though, would still have to be run by a GM.

It's kind of hard without a controlled game, you know?
