"For Every Fault, there's a breathtaking sight or set pulse to raise the pulse, and the levels themselves are glorious to behold. And when the game gets right, it's hard to argue with it."

"Sonic the Hedgehog contains a few sparkling moments of brilliance, many moments of mediocrity and the rest is just plain average. A Sonic fan can find lots of fun here, but if the laziness of the production is too much for you then you can still find joy in the story and levels themselves. It's by no means a terrible game, but it's certainly not a great Sonic game. 'Sonic Adventure' was good in 1999, but it won't cut the mustard anymore. It's time the Hedgehog evolved. "

"With games like Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank and all the other newfound heroes of 3D platforming dominating the landscape, our old blue rocket is showing his years: he's older and slower than he used to be, and he just doesn't work as well. At this point in Sonic's lifespan, I think the best thing Sega can do now is to either return the series to its 2D roots and exhibit what made Sonic so great to begin with, or just completely retire the hedgehog and give him the dignity he so rightly deserves."
XBOX 360 The Offical Magazine 6/10
"Ironically, the best levels in Sonic The Hedgehog are the ones where you don’t even play as Sonic. Sonic’s just too fast for the 3D world. He hits scenery in the speed levels, falls off the edge in the combat sections and mostly frustrates in all his little bits of game. When playing as new guy Silver, though, it’s far better. Silver walks at a sensible pace, so you don’t fly off the edge and die so much."

"What if you threw a party and nobody came because the camera controls sucked and all of the guests fell off the edge of the world and died? Repeatedly. “Happy 15th Birthday Soni…AGHHHHHH!"

"From a technical standpoint, Sonic the Hedgehog doesn't really impress. A few areas look excellent, but the majority of stages appear vaguely last gen, with only slightly enhanced textures and massive amounts of motion blur. When giant rock formations crumble into the ocean with nary a splash, it simply seems lazy. Thankfully, most of these graphics are whipping past you at breakneck speed, so you don't miss the details too terribly. In fact, a handful of new "mach speed" stages that distill the Sonic experience to its purest form -- running, jumping, and dodging -- will help you recall why we all cared about Sonic in the first place. If only the developers had focused on delivering a simple, fun experience rather than trying to create something far beyond their reach."

I honestly couldn't find a good quote from them... so I'll just put a bad one.
"For some sick reason Shadow is also back and you’ll not only be using his guns once again..."
Game Daily 2.5/5
"Sonic the Hedgehog has entertained audiences for fifteen years now, and most gamers would say that the first ten were far better than the last five. Unfortunately, this foray into next-generation gaming knocks his legacy even further backwards. Sonic the Hedgehog actually tries to tell a story for a change, but the game's speed bumps knock it off the road. Atrocious camera angles lead to cheap deaths, the slippery controls make it difficult to get a handle on the characters and the game has a large problem with pacing. It tries to mix in side missions with general stages, and the disastrous results ruin the game. The side characters also serve to frustrate, thanks to the less than impressive controls. This isn't an awful game. Rather, it's a sorely missed opportunity that comes at a time when all the Sonic Team had to do was stay true to its hero's roots. Do not buy this game."

"Pretend you're playing the game. You get into a town stage. Loading Screen. You talk to a person. Loading Screen. He tells you what to do. Another loading screen. You do the mission. Another Loading Screen. He congratulates you. Another loading screen. There's not any other game with such a broken flow as this one."

"In what might be seen as a move to reset and reinvent the series, the latest game to feature Sonic the Hedgehog is merely called Sonic the Hedgehog. Sega's blue critter has been around since the 16-bit days, when his side-scrolling platformers were strong enough to take on Mario, the then-undisputed kingpin of the platforming genre. Sonic's fall from grace has been slow, starting with a promising first stab at 3D with Sonic Adventure, but it's all been downhill since those far-gone days, and games like this new Sonic the Hedgehog are the culprit. With plenty of bad glitches, poor controls, and totally lame gameplay on all fronts, this one's not going to restore any part of the Hedgehog's name to glory."
EDGE Magazine 3/10
"Maybe it's that rebellious attitude of his. That could explain Sonic's disastrously skittish controls - what more signifant a rebbellion could a viceogame character peform than to leave the player feeling out of control? Trying to get the game's main playable trio - Soinc, Shadow and Silver - under the thumb is like trying to shake hands with a waterfall, with the least sucess when dealing with Sonic himself."
Game Central 3/10
"Despite our revulsion at the art direction, though the worse aspect is that it still fails to fix a single fault from Sonic Adventure in 1999.
We just don’t see any way back for the franchise. Sonic is dead to us now."
GameSpy 1.5/5
"Sega's Team Sonic could have churned out a fun, old-fashioned Sonic for the blue one's fifteenth anniversary and the vast majority of us would have been happy. I would have been happy. Instead, Sonic the Hedgehog will at best convince Sega to replace the decision makers in Team Sonic. Individual segments of the game where you actually get to play as Sonic and run fast don't fall apart, but other than those rare portions of Sonic, the game is a disaster. It's more reminiscent of the debacle of Shadow, not the glorious Sonic games of yesteryear."
Eh, better luck next time.
