And the reviews for CT DS...

...seem to conclude that while it's a great game still, the extras are pathetic.

I was tempted, really tempted, to end my Squeenix boycott for this, but instead...

Pass.

I'm going to buy this, simply because I don't have the original.

I'm going to buy this simply to get Square to pay more attention to Chrono and to show that this is just as profitable as Final Fantasy VII: Fervent Chaos (I made that name up. And yes, it sucks intentionally because that's what Square does). -CSM

I will buy this when money comes into my pocket, just to support CT.

I kind of wanted Squeenix to make more games like Chrono Trigger, not necessarily make a sequel (or give us the same damn game again).

^What they NEED to do is get the Dream Team back together to make ANY RPG. If the KH team is willing to be creative so can the ten times more creative supergroup that made CT. -CSM

A full REMAKE should have happened on Wii and a spiffy rerelease of Cross should have been bundled or something, with Break coming after on PS3. Shoulda, coulda, woulda...

Dream Team. How ironic that we'll just keep dreaming. Ha, it is more like Chrono Dream than Break at this point anyway.

^True dat.

Although to be frank I don't want the Dream Team to become sellouts to be fair and make halfassed products that have the Chrono name on them. -CSM

Of course, no one wants a Dream Team of sell outs. But on the other hand they absolutely must create a final and closing chapter for Chrono. I don't want it whored like FF7 though. However, throwing Crono into Dissidia wouldn't hurt, maybe later on in a special edition or as a downloadable character when they inevitably rerelease Cross. Won't happen but whatever.

Anyway, at least Square is on a rerelease rampage so we'll see Cross next hopefully instead of more cell phone exclusive sequels/spin-offs.

^I'd like to see Frog and Magus in another game, personally. In CC they were the only two CT characters that weren't even MENTIONED! -CSM

...Get it? Cloud? Clouding? Bah.

Well, I barely played CC but I read up on it. Apparantly, a main character in CC was gonna be revealed as Magus or something and they changed it and just had to ditch Magus.

Now Frog, I can't see why they wouldn't at least hint at him...I'll check that out, I'm curious.

But I think a game revolving around Glenn, Cyrus, Magus (also as Janus) and Schala should be made. Problem is, I also want a direct sequel to CC and/or a game in between CT and CC. *Sighs* But now we risk Clouding the series.

My brother says that this game is great. He says it's a better translation, and it has the PSX cutscenes without the ridiculous PSX loading times. I'm definitely getting it to support the Chrono games and so I can actually own a copy (since my brother totally owns the SNES version).

I beat it yesterday. My verdict?

Spoilers ahead!
Spoiler.
The game is still wonderful. Frog lost his accent, but he still speaks in an old-timey manner. the translation is mostly the same with a few rewordings. Some things I miss: "...but you're still hungry" and "This is the truth! This is my belief! ...At least for now."
Things I was happy to see: "It's the Aero-Dalton Imperial!" "Ozzie's in a pickle!"
New translation nitpick that I hate: The Mystics are now called Fiends and Magus is referred to as the Fiendlord.

Now for the bonuses.
For those of you who played FF4 on the GBA and were pleasantly surprised at the loads of bonus material added to it, don't get your hopes up. CT DS goes the way of FF6 GBA. We get a few new weapons and some sidequests that are pretty lame, if not completely aggravating. The Reptite village sidequest is a neat idea but executed in a way that makes you trek through the same area some 15 times to finish. And there are mandatory battles each way. Every time. It's a pain. The other new dungeons are a good touch and they let you battle shadow versions of Crono, Marle, and Lucca. Unfortunately, they're pushovers if you've played that game before and know where to get all the good armor (and know how to steal from Queen Zeal three times to get maximum treasure). I also wanted shadow versions of the other party members and was disappointed that they didn't exist. The new final boss is a bit of a letdown for the same reason. It beat me once (I didn't heal like I should have), but I was able to come back immediately after and beat it with no problem. Dalton makes a surprise revelation about Chrono Cross. The new ending also somewhat confirms a Magus-Guile connection for Cross as well.
Overall, the game is still great, but the bonuses leave something to be desired, especially if you're looking for a challenge.

^
Spoiler.
They don't even call him Magus anymore? WHAT? Magus and Frog are my two favorite characters of all time, and to see them ruined is a sin.

And the WHOLE POINT of the Enteron was that you were still hungry after leaving it. They even remembered to do it in CC, which was made after FFVIII, which was I think the point where they settled on "this is the translation we're doing from now on whether you like it or not."

Spoiler.
Cleaning up Frog's speach may not ruin him but Magus? He is never referred to as Magus...?

They did screw up the Enteron thing though, no doubt. But I like that they acknowledge CC in this game. That's a good sign for a CC rerelease!

Well.....
Spoiler.
Dalton shows up in Crono's Dimensional Vortex (His title is Once-King Dalton). After he's beaten (again), he says he'll get revenge on Crono by helping Porre get stronger and attacking Guardia. And as we know, that's what happens in Chrono Cross.

As for Magus, in the new ending, Magus finally tracks down Schala, who is, by this time, fused to the Dream (not yet Time) Devourer. He tries to attack the Devourer, but is too weak and is defeated. Schala decides to free him from his anguish of searching for her for eternity and wipes his memory. He is last seen wandering through the woods in what looks like 1,000 AD.
